just dusted off a savage 99 i got from my grandpa a looooong time ago, that had been put away and forgot. from what ive found its a 50's model 99. looking for any info on scope mounts. cant seem to find any anywhere!
Mel, your gun was made in 1956, won't be a T they stopped making the T in 1940.
Could be an F (99F stamped on the barrel), an EG (schnobel tipped forearm) or it's an R (pretty rare in 308).
Sam, seriously, the blue book? Where did you get it? The 308 wasn't even introduced to the public till 1952 so I highly doubt that Savage made a 99 in 308 in 46.

The 308 Winchester was introduced to the public as a sporting cartridge by Winchester in September 1952, this same cartridge was accepted by the U.S. military known as the T-65 cartridge in 1954 and began chambering M-14 rifles for the round in 1957, this cartridge is also known as the 7.62 NATO cartridge.

You are absolutely right. The .308win was introduced in 1952.On page 1527 BlueBook 29th edition showed the Savage model 99 post war with mfg dates 1946-60 chambered for .243,.250,.300,.308,.358.Afterthought,it doesn't mean the .308win chambering was available in 1946.It only means sometime between '46 and '60 the chambering was available in that model. ,,,sam.
