1911 News
I just read where LAPD's newest Chief had approved the 1911 for on duty carry. Approved makes are Kimber, Springfield, and Colt. Pretty unusual for a large department. Cocked pistols make most Chiefs nervous.

Proper training is key. I wouldn't use one, but as long as they are trained, ok.

Cocked and locked is pretty safe. It also is quicker to deploy if needed. I like it!

Training is indeed the key. My FTO was responsible for my agency banning SA sidearms. The idiot shot his tire once, shot his transmission on another occasion and the crowning blow was when he shot his partner in the back during a drug raid (entry). Brilliant!
Proper (and frequent) training will go a long way in preventing ND's.

You mean there is actually a Chief who knows a .45 will put them down better than a 9mm?

Well it makes since because their elite SIS units have been using Kimber for a while now and Kimber has even made them their own special model.
As far as I'm concerned the cops, any and all no matter where they are should have the same fire power they could end up having to face.

No kidding, they really don't know what they could come across, and the stopping power in the hands of the good guy the better.

I alway thought it was funny/odd that so many departments that are afraid of a cocked and locked 1911 approve the Glock.

I'm not a Glock fan, but aren't they striker fired? The public perception of a 1911 cocked and locked is greatly impacted by the sight of the hammer back during carry. Those not understanding the gun feel it is unsafe to carry a cocked gun, and tend to holler about it. They think in terms of revolvers being cocked and ready to fire and not about the safety on the 1911.

It still upsets so many limp wrist libs that some cop cars now carry AR15's where they used to lock in the shotgun up front.
