Just got in from the range. Rented a XD, M&P, Sig 250 and a Taurus 24/7. Also shot my friend's Glock. All were .45 which is the caliber I want. They had a nice HK for rent too that I really liked but that is out of my price range. I liked the Sig a lot but not sure if I liked it $130 worth more than the M&P or XD. The Taurus felt real good and was very accurate. It was the cheapest in price and I shot the smallest groups with it but I got 3 jams out of 50 rounds. That doesn't make me feel comfortable for a gun that will save my life or cost me my life. I might like a Taurus as a range toy later on but not as my main source of personal protection. I didn't care for the Glock at all. It jammed on me 2 times and my groups were all over the paper. At 7 yards I was lucky to get a 8 to 9 inch group. I liked the Sig, XD and M&P. The gun shop at the range said they will let my friend buy it for me using his Law Enforcement discount. The Sig would be $660 out the door after tax and transfer fees. The M&P would be $530 out the door and the XD would be $525 out the door.

I am going to sleep on my experience and go back tomorrow to buy my gun. I have ruled out the Taurus and Glock even though the Taurus would only cost me $360 to walk out the door and my friend is willing to sell me his lightly used Glock for $400. I just didn't like them both jamming and the Glock didn't shoot well for me. If they were all the same price it would be the Sig for sure. I really liked the XD and M&P a lot and they are $130 and $135 less than the Sig. Part of me is thinking the Sig might be more but it is an investment that I might own 20 or more years. The frugal guy in me says many people are very happy with the XD and M&P and they are a lot less money. This is money I can spend on ammo to practice more.

I'll make my decision in the morning.

Sounds like you had a great day. You did it right. You can get opinions from 10,000 people and none of them will be as good as your own opinion based on your own experiences. All three of the guns you like are great guns. Since it will be your protection gun that your life may depend on I wouldn't let price guide you unless your cash is limited. If you really like the Sig and can somehow afford it buy the Sig. Don't get me wrong, the XD and M&P are great guns. I carry an XD myself as my main carry gun. However, your experiences say you like the Sig better. You don't ever want to be in a situation where you need your gun and be second guessing your decision thinking "I wish I had that Sig". No matter which one of the three you get you will have a great gun. Buy one, practice, shoot often, shoot safe and have fun.

I'm heading to the range soon. As of right now I am planning on getting the Sig. I'll just work a couple extra hours each week until I have made up the extra $130 I spend. I think I am going to rent each one and shoot 50 rounds through each. My friend who took me to the range told me that if I tell the store owner I plan on buying one of the three today he probably won't charge me to rent the guns since I am buying the ammo from him too. I woke with a sore hand after shooting 250 rounds of .45 yesterday. When talking with my Dad about it this morning he suggested I shoot them all with a sore hand. That will give me experience shooting sore and yesterday gave me experience shooting fresh. I won't get to pick what day someone mugs me and if my hand will be sore or not that day.

Hopefully my next post will be to tell everyone what I bought.

Dad gave you good advice. You want to be comfortable with your carry gun in any and all climates and environments that you are in everyday. That includes days when your hand hurts, you have a head ache, have a cold or days when you just feel great. Good luck today. I look forward to hearing what you choose. All three are great guns in my opinion.

Just got home with my new gun. Ended up not getting the XD, M&P or SIG. I was dead set on the Sig. I brought $750 with me in case I wanted to buy more ammo, a holster or had to pay for the rental. The Sig would have been $660 out his door. There was a woman there wanting to return a Stainless Springfield 1911 that she had picked up yesterday brand new and shot 1 box of ammo out of it. She wanted to return it because she said the .45 was too strong for her. She paid $825 for it brand new in the same store yesterday. The store owner told her he could only sell it for $725 or so now because even though she just bought it yesterday she shot a full box of ammo out of it and it was now a "Used Gun". He offered her $650 for it giving himself some room to negotiate price a little and still make a buck. She said she wanted $750. I asked her if I could shoot it if I bought the ammo and I might be interested. She actually had another box of .45's that she hadn't used and said I could shoot those since she wouldn't need them. The reason she was selling the gun is the .45 was too much for her. I shot 3 magazines of 7 rounds, fell in love and told her if she would take $700 for it I would give her cash right now. We haggled a little but shook hands, I gave her $700, she even gave me the remainder of the box of ammo she had. I took my extra $50 and bought box of protection ammo and still had money for lunch. The store owner suggested Winchester Ranger 230 grain so I took that. I felt bad buying something from another customer in his store but he was fine with it. She took my $700 and bought a 9mm XDM and still had over $100 left. He took $50.00 off her XDM because she had just bought the 1911 yesterday. So when it was all said and done I bought a gun I am very happy with. The store owner sold 2 guns and the woman who sold me the 1911 now has a gun she is comfortable with and everyone left happy.

I spent more money than I wanted to but I think I got a hell of a deal and a very nice pistol. I can't wait to shoot it more.

Great job. Sounds like you got the exact same Springfield 1911 I got. Coco Bolo grips? Stainless? I can't say enough about how happy I am with mine. I have a few thousand rounds of assorted ammos through it and never one failure. I bought it new for $700 Pre-Obama-Scare days. If it's the same one your dealer has great prices. It is $823 at Bud's now and Bud's is tough to beat. Is this it?

Springfield SRVC TGT 45SS Package for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $823.00

You might have spent a little more than you planned but I doubt you will ever look back and regret it. Worst case, you'll always be able to get what you paid for it if you decide to sell. Great job. Congrats on picking up beautiful pistol.

Jim
S&W has been doing this for years. When I bought mine, they were giving away a range bag and the dealer threw pins, hats and other stuff at me.
The next year, they had the $50.00 rebate and 2 free mags.
Now, it's either not both. Even without the perks I would have bought one and will buy another. I've put different ammo thru it and it's performed flawlessly.Just shoot 'em and clean 'em.

That's exactly the one. I am very happy with it so far. Feels very solid, shot great, little recoil compared to the other .45's I shot, very good looking and I feel very comfortable with the Springfield name. Is it just me or is a 1911 a real bitch to take apart and put back together when cleaning? I took it apart and put it back together three times yesterday just to practice.

Beleive it or not the best place I found for "Dummy Instructions" on taking mine apart was on You Tube. The 1911 in the video is a little different than the one you and I own but it is a Springfield and all the basic parts are the same. It is a step by step instructional video. It still takes practice and patience but the video sure helps me evrey time.

I like the Sig but my bank statement tells me the Taurus. Maybe I'll meet 1/2 way and get the XD or M&P.
