amazing shot

i found this vid while just looking around. amazing shots from a rifle that is over 100 years old and still in service.
anybody know why he is using his middle finger as his trigger finger?

Mmmm,

I could not get it to play.

1,000 yards with this gun may have happened but it does sort of stagger my imagination. Actually, 1,000 yards with any rifle other than a
truly expensive custom target/scope job sort of staggers my imagination.

Ten football fields is a long, long distance. At this range even minute variations from one cartridge to another in terms of powder charge, bullet weight, primer performance, etc. begins to show up.

i've seen this before. he's also got 2 other videos, one at 640 and 840 i believe. he worked his way up to the 1000 yards distance and created his own cartridge load. i think he worked it to his goal at each distance then tweaked it as he went to the longer distances. i guess you could say he has the perfect cartridge

Some shooters feel that the index finger is more sensitive to pressure than the forefinger. Also think that pulling with the index finger effects the balance of the weapon less than pulling with the forefinger. It's all personal preference.

^^personally, i find those shots to be more impressive, as you just used old surplus ammo compared to a finely tuned personal precision load. that was quite impressive sir

Very cool!! The fact you used milsurp ammo makes that a much more impressive feat!!!

and along with the fact that you used milsurp ammo you used light ball which is that much more likely to be affected by any slight breeze than heavy ball would. very nice shooting indeed.

I use my middle finger for rifles, and occasionally shotguns.

It just feels right for me and I shoot better like that.

I wish I could see/shoot that far... I'd be happy with a 1/5...

Using the middle finger forces you to not hold the rifle too tight with the trigger hand. With practice the middle is as sensitive as the trigger finger, but because you only have the thumb and 2 fingers holding the rifle you can't squeeze the rifle as tight with your trigger hand. Squeezing the rifle will throw you off.
