I just noticed on the DNR website prices went up quite a bit. I can still afford them, the increase is a high percentage that's for sure. I'm glad I got a lifetime hunting license when I did so I can take advantage of getting in state prices. I think the site said they are $42.50 for a combo permit now.
WTF!!! The DNR doesnt issue enough tags as it is, screwed mine up last year... and the year before and now they are raising the price! I am just going to little house on the prairie it before too long... If I am out of meat, I will just go get a deer. Of course with the amount of deer around here I could just wait for one the run into a car.
I'm mad and going to DNR site now LOL
thanks for the heads up!

WHATTA bunch of crap! I havent seen anything to justify a raise in rates! I could probably see it if the state wasnt already shutting down parks and wildlife areas. Or if they issued more tags... and only 7 days of deer hunting with shotgun in 10??
Dont get me wrong I can afford it too but its the principle that hacks me off!
I am a far superior steward of conservation in my hunting grounds... I think they need to just leave private property owner hunters the hell alone and let them manage it since the state sure as hell does a piss poor job... However... thats probably pretty harsh since I am sure the money being raised actually does not go to conservation. Most game wardens I have met are truly good guys who's back is up against the wall as much as the rest of us IL gun owners and hunters so I dont want to sound totally anti...
just hacks me off LOL

As far as I am concerned if the state keeps jacking up the price of tags it will lead to more people thinking like me... I own/lease the land, the land is supporting herds of deer that are larger than ever before in history since we destroyed all natural predators in pursuit of our own ambitions, I do not want to overhunt the herd as I will not have any in the future, The herds at such large numbers will start to suffer disease as lack of food weakens the whole herd, oh let me go back... ITS MY LAND, MY HERD whether fenced or not.... Why doesnt the state tax God for his herd.
I hunt, clean and process myself, a rate hike from 15 bucks which I did not mind paying up ten bucks per buck LOL... is laughable. 30 bucks a year for dual tags wasnt bad to pay... in this economy 42 bucks is alot of money when you got a family... especially when folks like us south of chitcago could just walk out the back door and return with a deer easily!
I personally think tags should be charged at a different rate for private property and public land hunting. I know you can get landowner and nuisance tags. But since I live on farm land that deer rarely venture onto I hunt private land not 5 minutes away that I SWEAR supports herds of 20+ per herd.... ridiculous! However, I worry about my gun owner rights and play by the books. When the book gets ridiculous its time for follks to say I have had enough... its coming.. not with this little increase, but I would wager that poaching tickets go up this season ???
what do you guys think?

I think it's definitely an issue of principle. I have a farm in my family, and if it weren't for my lifetime hunting license I'd be paying a whole lot more than I have to as it is. The state has to try to find ways to make more money so I guess they think this will work. The number of deer in the area I hunt is plenty, but there needs to be many more does killed every year, so maybe if the DNR knew what they were doing and put management dollars to good use it wouldn't be so annoying.
If the state needs money, maybe they finally put CCW through and I won't have to disarm now at the IL border.
I will still be getting my tags this year, and I won't really notice the extra $12.00, but there are a lot of people who will, and who hunt because they count on getting some of that deer meat. Those are the people who I really feel for on stuff like this.
problem is that the state wont use any of this revenue to go back into conservation nor will they probably increase antlerless tags available, extend seasons for shotguns etc.
I will pay the extra because I always do whats right even if I think its a farce but if it gets much higher I will be starting to harvest 1850's style when my freezer gets low!

The county I hunt in needs a buy a buck program like in WI. Lots of people come in from out of state, and huge outfitters managing for trophy bucks. They don't get rid of too many does at all.

True story. Today, March 9th is the first day to apply. i almost hate to hit the button
