OK, That is a HS, High Standard rebarrel.Heavily altered target type sporter. Rear sight and sleeve removed from barrel, which would have been in front of the receiver, commercial stock, rebarrelled with a HS barrel circa ww2, drilled and tapped for the target type rear sight. This was a do at home jobbie, and is not a 'NRA' type rifle, of the type that NRA issues. It would meet NRA requirements for match rifle in certain matches. No collector value.
ive been reading that the lyman sight gives it away as a true NRA rifle and the fact that it is Stamped NRA with the flaming bomb, or whats what the 3 people that have offerd me $1300 for it the lyman sight is rated for min or Yards the new reproduction/counter fits are min of meters
You didn't show that picture before..OK, it started out as a NRA rifle, but I am 99% positive it was heavily altered. Ask Rick the Librarian, but I don't think that rifle is even remotely what it looked like when the NRA sold it.If people are offering that much, Take it!
Link, I am not trying to poop your rifle. NRA rifles were issued in the 1920's. Yours has a WW2 barrel. Stock is completely different than what the NRA offered back then.PM Rick for his input....but I think the money offered you is way in excess of it's true value.

The problem here is you are talking about two different rifles. There was the DCM NRA sales rifles from the period 1910 to 1917 and then there was the NRA Sporter from circa 1924 to aprox.1933.
The rifle you have has the trigger guard and possibly action from the 1910-to 1917 period NRA sales M1903 and little else. These rifles were standard M1903 military rifles in as issued configuration with the exception of the stamping on the trigger guard.
The NRA sporter rifle from the 1924 to 1933 period was a totally different animal than what you have and none of them were built using RIA actions or WW2 HS barrels or stocks with any resemblance whatsoever to that one. They did use Lyman 48 receiver sights.Yours is not a 48,looks like a 57.M1903 rifles have been sporterized for about as long as the 03 was in production and long after it ceased.Lyman offered receiver sights for them all along too.A Lyman sight on an 03 is not an identifying factor of itself whether a rifle is an arsenal produced sporter.
In the condition it's in and being a bubba special,if you were offered $1300 for it in the condition it appears to be in from your pictures, take the money and Run Forest Run.

If I can add just one thing -- RIA actions were made through 430,000+ - perhaps M14man meant completed Rock Island rifles. NRA Sales rifles (from before WWI) were in the 236,000 and lower RIA s/n range (ca. 625,000 and lower deom Springfield). Your rifle picked up a NRA trigger guard from another rifle.
Immediately below is an NRA Sales rifle (Springfield #601,182). Below that is an NRA Sporter. Not only were they not from the same time frame, but their looks and design was totally different.
