I have been looking into purchasing a recoil buffer bolt stop pin, or whatever its called. But, i decided to try to avoid buying one offline and having to pay for the part and for shipping. So, after looking at several hardware stores and considering several household items, I figured out what I think will be the best bet.
I found some nylon spacers, 1" x 1/4", this is alittle shorter than the bolt stop pin, but you get 2 for $.56 so, i just cut them to length so that they meet in the middle. They are some hard nylon tubes essentially, the center is hollow. I used this to insert a small metal rod. I made that piece from a hitch pin clip, 1/8" x 2-1/2", $.68, all i had to do was cut the straight side down to 1 1/4". I wrapped some electrical tape around the pin which made it slide snugly into the nylon spacers. the finished product is almost exactly the same size as the factory pin, and because its nylon it holds its place well in the pin holes, its pretty stiff nylon, but softer than the steel, and the pin in the center should keep its straight. all for $1.33.
The only other thing i found was some wooden pins but i didnt think that would work. so, for anyone who is a little bit mechanilcally inclined, or just good with their hands, i would give this a try. It seems to work well cycling the bolt by hand and tomorrow i will put some rounds through it to see how it holds up.
the receiver is made out of aluminum, the pin the stops the bolt as it slides backwards is made of steel. This does two things, over time it can warp the alum. holes that the pin slides into, making it loose and creating play, the nylon should absorb some of the impact energy. It also absorbes and reduces recoil. this can help the scope stay zeroed and prevent to mounting screws from coming loose, in theory. We'll see how well it works tomorrow.
I guess I should have taken some pics, but i put it all together before I decided to post. Tomorrow I will follow up with a report and take some pics when I check it for bending or damage.
I enjoy tinkering with things and this was a cheap way to do so, and maybe get some beneficial results.

Thanx! I hope it works out, i think it will. its pretty solid with the steel pin in the center.
Ive noticed that alot of the commercially made ones say that theyre only good for about 1000 rounds, so im curious to see if this one lasts that long.. or longer.
If anyone else wants to try this just let me know and ill show some pics and stuff.
well it held up through about 200 rounds. I was experiencing some jams though, more than usual. My gun never really jams ive only had about 3 that i can remember before today but then i had 3-4 today, i think it may have been the federal ammo that i was using though, i usually use remington gold tip.
On another note, my scope held tight and didnt budge.
