Forgive me if some of my terminology is a little off, until recently I was (shamefully) one of those guys that jest knew it went bang when I pulled the trigger. I'm starting to restore my father's old 187m and I'm having the following problem:
When I pull back the breech bolt, it will lift a round up like normal. When the bolt comes forward, it catches the rear of the round like normal and pushes it forward. As the round comes forward, it catches on a little burr of metal on the entrance to the barrel(it was probably dinged somehow). Other than buying .21lr, what's the best way to fix this? I don't want to replace the barrel if I don't have to, so can I just try to sand/grind it down somehow(If I can get to it)? The bullet would be far beyond this point when the gun actually fires, so it shouldn't affect accuracy if I can pull that off. Any reason I shouldn't try?
I advise taking it to a gunsmith. What caused the burr is dryfiring,in other words firing a rimfire with no cartridge. The firing pin hit the chamber wall and scuffed it up. ,,,sam.
