it's a good possibility, i know the OBX diff can be had for most of the japanese and domestic cars.
i'm sure there are others out there.

i think your best bet would be to get a YJ wrangler with a 2.5l4 as a starting point.
light weight, already a 4x4, and straight axle suspension which won't cost a ton to lift

this is a write up of how to fit 33" tires on an X. the same results are available from a comercially manufactured 4" suspension lift, but that costs around $2k, this is under $300.

i dont know the price of a lift for a blazer, but would assume something like the above method would work on one. i believe they also have torsion bars for the front suspension.
Im actually a member of that forum lol

YJ is tempting to consider, as I actually don't mind the controversial headlights. Maybe if I could ditch the panhard rods and use CJ leaf springs from a lift kit?

Here's just a wild thought - would there be any traction or floating advantage to dual rear wheels? Say if the front wheels were centered between the outer and inner wheel? Perhaps not with a normal weight distribution, but maybe if 2/3 of the weight was on the rear wheels (think rear engine on a VW, or battery weight on a hybrid.)

Just a brainstorm.
