Big weekend coming up

This is the weekend of my Science Club's annual trip to Hocking Hills, a state park in the non-glaciated southeastern part of Ohio. This will be the 32nd consecutive year for me to take a group of kids - sometimes as many as 120 - down for the weekend to hike around some pretty neat terrain and possibly learn a bit about the differences a little glaciation can make on the economy of an area.

There will be only 82 kids and 15 parents this year, but that's enough to keep things interesting from a logistical standpoint. So far no kids have been hurt, although there is the very real possibility that one of them might walk off a cliff - about 99.99% of the park is without guard rails. Some of the cliffs are close to 200 feet.

It's always fun when we get there, but getting all the ducks in a row to make it happen smoothly is a real pain.

Pat yourself on the back for getting our youth involved !! When I had kids in school, I always volunteered to go along on field trips and help out.

I have been to Hocking Hills many times. It's a nice place to go for a family picnic. I like Cedar Falls the best.

My wife talks about her summer camp daytripping to Cedar Falls. She says there was a waterfall on smooth rocks with a deep pool at the bottom there that the kids used to slide down. Great fun on a hot day.

Partner,

You must have nerves & patience, of steel.
I commend you, on your 32 years of diligence!

Have fun, and stay safe.
