do you look down your nose when someone brings a 3rd hand Mossberg to the Skeet Club???
do you cringe when someone brings a SNS to the Pistol Club???
do you sneer when someone shows up at the Rifle Range with a beat up mil/surp???
do you believe your gun is the best and anything less should be melted down???
then you may be a gun snob.
or are you like me...a non-snob. i like everything...the good the bad and the ugly. me i am looking to buy a fine Churchill shotgun, as soon as i hit the mega-buck lottery. but i am also in the market for a couple RG revolvers, some old top-break revolvers....whaddaya think of that

I'm not a gun Snob either and here's why...These old worn gun's to me have history.
When I pay a visit to a friend's Pawn and Gun shop I normaly do a good looking over the used gun's and some of them are well used but not abused.
These are the one's I'll spend a minuite or two longer holding and I'll wonder what kind of story they could tell.
As far as a gun that does'nt cost an arm and a leg to buy I'd suggest you never bet you can out shoot one of them because today rifles like Marlin XL7 ect. Mossberg ATS'es and someothers will equal or be more acurate than someones high dollar or custom rifle.
I have a purty gun or two, but I'd rather takemy old guns out shooting, because I know how good they shoot! And as far as milsurps, Ilove to hold them, and wonder where they've been. I've run into a few snobs, and they do get flustered, when you outshoot 'em with an old, scarred gun! I do love it so!
I guess I may be a little bit of a gun snob. I don't care what other people have but I do make sure I get exactly what I want when I am looking for a gun....anything else simply won't do.

I like whatever I have, and I generally stop to admire others' guns as well.
The only guns that worry me are the ones that just don't look safe. Mostly that has to deal with the bozos who own those guns, not the guns themselves.
I personally don't care for a lot of the people at the gun range - you know the type: weekend Rambos with an attitude, possibly half-drunk or stoned rednecks who like to shoot holes on others' targets, the Know It All, etc. - but I've also run into several nice folks, too.
Mostly I just try to mind my own business and be friendly to others.

I think you kinda sorta described the way I think also. But I don't fault anyone for their choice in firearms so long as they are safe and used properly.

That falls into the category of having "discerning taste" as a gun enthusiast.
I'd say that is where I am on the scale, as well.
I do not concern myself with what others want to shoot, as long as the guns are SAFE to shoot in my vicinity. I am just extremely happy to see folks exercising their Second Amendment Right.
Technological advances have made some guns better, and other guns worse.
My collection is mixed between old and new. Civilian and Military guns. I guess you could say my collection is "functionally oriented" by choice. If a gun fills a certain niche I am looking to fill, it gets included in the collection. If it no longer fills the niche, or does not have a regular job to do, it gets sold.

hmmm? I think I'll go consult my RG .22 single action and sears .22 single shot rifle about this.
I asked these two little fellas what they thought and had to wait while they talked to all their siblings. They reported back to me the concensus of opinion was that they were all treated with respect, whether they were young and shiny or grey with age and a bit bruised. Some wished I spent more time with them than others but the two little fellas had something special to tell me. First the little RG pistol told me how much he appreciated all the time we got to spend togeather in the truck. Then the .22 rifle told me how he enjoyed standing in the corner at the hunt camp and listening to the hunt strategies and old hunting stories. Then they really got to me. They told me that they and their siblings all agreed I should adopt more of them anytime the family budget allows!!!

I look down on as many guns as I can -- while I'm standing in front of the table on which they are displayed at a show.
Sometimes, I even pick one up to appreciate the wood to metal fit, the mechanical genius of the mechanism, and the subtle sheen on the finish that only years of honest use can bring -- unless the guy running the table has signs saying "do not touch". For them, it really is just a show, since they are apparently not interested in selling anything, at least to me.
