sighting in my PU sniper

Monday I did some major work on my unsighted in replica sniper. Had to pretty much grind off the pads that adjust windage on the mount (per proper procedure). May have some tweaking to do with the elevation screw, and might have to tweak the mount a wee bit more too. Still haven't touched the scope internals.

At any rate though, from a rest at 25 yards, I would always get two shots touching, and a flyer, usually a bit off to the right. Same thing at 50 yards. By the time I worked my way out to 100 yards, I was tired, the gun was hot, I was discovering the limitations of the PU scope, and I was getting errors that were explainable by the shooter, not the scope. At any rate, two shots still near each other, and a third flyer off to the right.

I've heard of other mosin snipers shooting like this too. Common thing? At any rate, I've still got the fine work today, but it's shaping up to be a great rifle!

I'm in the same boat with you there. I can't sight mine in yet because the range does'nt open back up until April. From what I can tell I am going to be doing some grinding on the pads also. How did you go about grinding down the pads at the range. It seems going at it with a file would be very time consuming.

I used a file...

You can do it at home if you have a gun vise and a bore sighter though. Shoot the laser down your bore at a target on the wall, and look through the scope. Moving the mount to POI is POI. Once you have the mount dialed in to point of impact, then you can set the elevation screw for distance, and dial the scope at the range.

just put the mount on an ex-sniper. i can't believe how much elevation and windage that pu scope has! i was trying to get it just right with the mount and found i was really just wasting time. i think i could adjust the elevation to shoot eight hundred yards easy with this thing! lol

From reading the site about sighting in the Mosin Nagant it appears that most of the original P/U scopes were sighted in around 700 meters and then zeroed. Not much use for us plinkers shooting at 100 yard targets. I have a laser boresighter but it is a bit wonky and I do'nt trust it. I guess I'm going to do it the old fashion way fire a five round group while a buddy spots with a scope and adjust. Its a good thying I have 1200 rounds of ammo!
