I just read the story from Florida about the 15 year old boy who kicked a 8th grade girl half to death over a text argument. Some say it is a school problem but I think it is a society issue. When reading the comments beneath the story it didn't take long for people to start getting hostile and calling each other names and such. I don't think people are able of having civil conversations any more. What a shame!
when I hear about this sort of stuff it makes me want to puke that boy should be punished to the fullest extent of the law since governments around the world have banned physical discipline of children the kids seem to think they can act as they please, Bring back the paddle.
I think a nice year long stay in a state prison with a cell mate named Bubba might be a good dose of medicine for a dirtbag of this caliber. I hope he is tryed as an adult and not a juvenile.

Sorry, I think violent criminals should be executed. Quickly. I don't care how young/old they are, or what other "problems" they have. Commit a crime of violence against another human being, you're toast.

This kind of thing has got to stop. People can't go around thinking that violence is the only way to deal with their personal problems. The boy should go to juvenile dentention until he is an adult and then be tried as an adult for felony assault and serve hard time for it. Kid's think they can get away with murder before they're 18. They think they can do anything they want to, to anyone they want to and not only will they get away with it, but when they turn 18 their record will be completely expunged. They take advantage of that. They also take advantage of the fact that if anyone over 18 so much as puts a finger on them to correct them, that person will be punished by the law and criminalized. Parents cannot even administer corporal punishment anymore in most areas without the local DHS showing up on their doorstep and again putting them in legal jeopardy. These laws were put into effect to protect children, instead, they're destroying them, their relationship with their parents and their ability to function properly in society. It all boils down to misguided benevolence, and people who think they know everything better than everyone else, and cannot mind their own business. DHS needs to help the kids that really need help and stay out of the woodshed of everyday, normal American parents. And the laws that let children and teens get away practically with murder, should be amended and changed so that kids who perpetrate evil like this do not benefit from their bad choices,actions and crimes, but instead be held responsible for their actions, no matter what age they are.

You know... Up to around the time of the Vietnam War this culture had a set of unwritten rules that seemed to work for us and produce good citizens. It had a great deal to do with how we educated our children from kindergarten to high school graduation.
Back then, everyone understood that kids went to school to learn. Kids that didn't want to learn were kicked out and not allowed back without expressions of true contrition - and once readmitted were watched closely thereafter. Yes, there was bullying, but good principals didn't tolerate much of it and a teacher could wade in to stop a fight or a bullying incident with impunity.
In school, the teachers were in charge. The Principal was God, and the Vice Principal his avenging angel. Break the rules, and the best you could hope for was detention. If your offense was serious enough to warrant suspension, it was a heinous punishment in the eyes of the good, conforming students. The person would be regarded with suspicion when finally allowed to return, by both teachers and students.
Yes, the Pretty People and the dumbjocks (that's all one word, like "jackass") ruled the social life of the school. They always have and probably always will due to human nature. But there were limits as to how far they could go in making the lives of the student body, the outcasts in particular, miserable; and the school authorities would call them on it if they crossed the line. I saw it happen in my own school days.
The kids in the business track and the vo-tech track disliked the kids in the college prep track, but their dislike was confined to mocking them and some bullying in gym class, maybe. They'd get landed on by the teachers if they tried anything more.
Long story short: back then everyone understood the teachers and the administration ran the school, their way. Kids were safe there because the bad apples were swiftly tossed out of the basket and potential bad apples got run through the cider press double-quick. Everyone accepted it and profited by it, by being able to learn what they needed to know in a calm, safe atmosphere.
Then along came the lawyers who took law degrees to avoid military service in Vietnam. In a profession massively overpopulated with attorneys, these yellow-bellies had to justify their existence. At the same time a school of educational theory took hold that felt it is more important to develop the brats' self esteem and personal sense of worth as persons instead of teaching them how to learn and then insisting that they learn. Between them, these ex-hippie-type liberal leftists systematically undermined the authority and integrity of the school system. Then they allowed gangbangers and other scumbags to get away with all sorts of crimes, with no punishment. They took control of the schools out of the hands of school administrators and teachers and gave it jointly to the kids and their room temperature-IQ brained parents, which to my way of thinking is allowing the inmates to take over the asylum; and yet are astonished at the outcome.
Over the course of 30 years, these traitors to the American Ideal have dismantled what was the best public school system the world had ever seen, that it took their great-grandparents, grandparents and parents better than 100 years to build. They tilled the ground that allowed the weeds of political correctness and social relevance to choke out the plants of knowledge and integrity and mutual respect between teachers and the taught. Yet they sit around their living rooms, in their out of the way expensive restaurants, and at their various conferences wondering why our public schools no longer give good value!
If it were up to me, I'd put every school kid into an issued school uniform. If they wanted to buy their own, fine; but everyone would be issued a blazer, two school ties, two white shirts or blouses, and two gray flannel skirts or slacks. Girls could wear slacks if they wanted, but if they wore skirts they would wear gray knee socks with them, not nylons and certianly not bare legs. Shoes would be black flats for girls, black oxfords for boys; and they would by God be kept polished! Manners would be required. Teachers would be addressed as Sir or Ma'am, or Mr., Mrs., Miss or Ms. [name], according to their preference. School rules would be laid down and enforced impartially, especially on the Pretty People and the dumbjocks. Kids that didn't want to learn would be booted out, and offenders against the rules would be hauled up in front of a school court after school twice a week in the school auditorium, with the Vice Principal in the role of the judge, on the close order of Captain's Mast in the Navy. And I would institute an honor code and take it seriously. Maybe not all the way to the West Point Credo, but an honor code that required the brats to respect themselves, their teachers and each other. No cheating. No drugs. No stealing. Golden Rule kind of stuff.
Yes, I have no doubt the ex-hippies and the generation of lackwits the ex-hippies have trained would pass a cow and have kittens at this suppression of the widdle pweciusses' personalities. To hell with them. Schools are supposed to teach. And if the experience of the Marine Corps which has been turning borderline punks into Marines for a century is anything to judge by, the kids will latch onto that discipline, the uniform and the honor code like a starving man to a whole barbecued steer. Kids need rules and limits and they need the adults in their lives to behave like adults, not like their friends. The ex-hippies and their pshrink allies have forgotten this - if indeed they ever knew it. Schools are to prepare kids for life in their society and nation, not to warehouse them for six or so hours a day.
Of course, this will never happen until there is some sort of a national catastrophe that can be laid squarely and irrefutably at the feet of the f()ckwits who have ruined our educational system and are working to make it even worse. But a curmudgeon is allowed to dream, isn't he? I personally don't care who I offend with my views on this subject. I just want American schools restored to the preeminence they once enjoyed - before the nitwits who control how they are operated became more concerned with the rights of the students rather than with the students' obligation to learn.
I think the little punk should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, there is simply NO excuse for this type of behavior, if you can't function like a productive member of society, then you shouldn't be allowed to participate in it.

I was brought up to believe it is wrong for a man to hurt a woman/girl and I still believe that to be true.
Unfortunitly this is just another sign o' the times.
One of the worst things to ever come down the pike was this stupid "No child left behind" law. Bad apples can't be tossed aside anymore - they remain in 'the barrel' to spoil the good kids, and prey on them. The administrators think if the bad kid remains in the common group, the good kids will somehow 'inspire' him to do better. Actually, the exact opposite happens - the bad kid is seen getting extra 'attention' - so soon ALL the kids are acting up to get that attention. The ones who really do try to learn are victimised, and the administration does NOTHING til someone gets hurt.
I hope that girl's father sues the school for all they have. This crap should NOT be allowed to happen.
