I just see in my guns shop an M1 carbine 2 ww production, with an inusual name on barrell. the marks are: BUFFA 6-43
Wich producer is buffa ? it is rear ?
I don't know who made the receiver.

Buffalo was a sub-contractor , producing barrels for several prime contractors. To locate the prime contractor you will find the name to the rear of the flip sight or under the adjustable sight. In good light and looking from the sides you should be able to make out the name on the receiver. Bob
