Question Space shuttle ???

What has the news/paers tv news ect been saying about NASA in your area????????

the local papers here (the space coast) seems to have turned on NASA.

It seems that the local media...especialy the newspapers in my area seem to have turned on NASA....this is kinda weird because in the past they have been very pro space....and over looked problems in the past.....Ill post an example from a Miami paper today....Posted on Sat, Feb. 22, 2003

Inexperience hurt shuttle analysis, engineers say
BY JOE MOZINGO
Miami Herald

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Veteran Boeing engineers say their company falsely led NASA to conclude that the space shuttle Columbia was safe to land because top managers assigned the task of assessing damage to employees who had never done that type of analysis for NASA before.

I'm not so sure

Howdy,

I look at it as the media is looking to crucify someone regarding the shuttle so they can feel all good about themselves and say, "See, we found the bad guy!"

The media is no better then the French, they'll take whichever side they need to in an argument to look good.

What if NASA was aware of past problems and did not correct it.
Then what? Forget the media what if?

Ahhh

Howdy Alan!

But that then is a whole different discussion.

If NASA knew about the problem, and tried to cover it up that is a really complicated issue.

Knew about the problem, do you mean before the launch? Or as a result of the foam colliding with the wing, or knew there was wing damage and tried re entry anyway?

As I say, there is a lot more depth to the conversation then.

when people die and a government agency is involved, the finger pointing is public issue, and free game for naysayers, and the press, you think NASA is under attack, LANL is bieng villified and under congressional investigation for clerical errors involving property, because of two bozo investigators, when you work for an institution that, is so high profile, and the unthinkable happens, the liberal press is down your throat, no matter what the real issues are, because they dont give a dam but are looking to sell copy

NASA was aware of many problems in the past and covered them up. Read the Congressional report on the Challenger or the book "A Major Malfunction". The shuttle program is about 10x as expensive as all the official estimates from when it was proposed and NASA cuts corners BIG TIME.

Well...

Howdy Alan!

I am not arguing the point with Klaus. I have not read into this or studied it like it appears several have. And I do not doubt for one minute a Govt run entity is screwed up from the top down and we are paying for gross incompitence.

But I merely said the issue would be a different debate other than the media question I posted on in my first post in this thread.....

Cool Just for the sake of argument...

What if the military refused to let the crew use one of the Emergency re-entry vehicles at the International Space Station????
