357mag shells sticking a bit.

Just entered the world of reloading and have a few questions
for you folks.
Im loading 158gr jhp ontop 10gr blue dot with a mag primer for
a S&W 686 6". My leymans book has range 9.7-10.6(if i remember)
I loaded a few at the low end and a few at 10gr.
My son had taken a few of each to the range(no extreme weather) and said that
some of the spents were tuff to eject.
I decided to load a few using a small primer with the same
bullet and charge of 10gr.

Your thoughts?

The load sounds ok.Was your son using the same revolver the shells were fired in before reloading?Your resizing die may not be resizing full length and causing them to hang up.One other thing,do they take a push to chamber them?If so it is a sizing problem. They out to fall right in. ,,,sam.

I'm trying to figure out what you meant by saying you were loading a few with a small primer. You mean a small pistol primer non magnum?

Have you checked the cylinder to make sure the chambers are not dirty or ringed from shooting .38 specials?

That was my first thought too.

I reload the same projectile but use Hogdon 110 powder. I use 15 grains and some at 15.5(these I use for the Marlin lever action) and have shot both out of a 686 just like you have. I don't have any problems with them ejecting, you might want to try this powder. Also just for giggles, are you reloading brass cases or nickle? I've used both and the nickle almost fall out after shooting, make sure you are cleaning your brass realy good, clean brass doesn't stick. Also like said above make sure the chambers are clean real good if you shoot 38 specials or the 357 brass will stick on the powder residue from the shorter cases!! Let us know what you find.

My lymans book shows only loads for the above using mag primers.
I loaded a few rounds with small standards and just wonder,
would the round and preasure be that signifacant?

Eagle,
What puzzles me is I see scrub marks on the spents.
not too often.
My cleaning of brass needs a bit refining I think.
Is this not apart of the world of reloading?
Damn----I havin fun!!!
