Question High Standard type "B"

What the heck are these things??

Kinda looks like a Colt Woodsman wannabe...

Are they decent lttle .22'r's, or something best used as a canoe anchor??

They're good pistols. I used to have one a long time ago. Wish I still had it !! They had finicky magazines that either worked great or didn't work much at all.

Shrek, High Standard still commands a very devoted cult following among the 22 handgun crowd. I had one of their Sport King models and it was far and away more dependable and accurate than any other semiauto 22 that I have owned from several other famous makers. Based on the prices that the Model B and a number of other High Standard models will bring at gun shows or places like Cabela's I imagine it is of that same pedigree.

I wish the present High Standard company in Texas could begin remaking some of those famous 22 models.

Well, I kinda picked one up at the local gun show in pretty darn good condition for $180

I got it because it looked interesting...

But as I look at auction prices...I think I got a heckuva deal

I love my High-Standard .22 it is highly accurate and still no misfires.

Every time I go to my local gun dealer the first thing I do is look in the used gun display case for High-Standard .22 pistols.

They usually go pretty quick.

The only problem I had at the range with it yesterday was some sub-standard ammo.

I had some leftover RGB's...and had duds.

Back in the 60's High Standard target .22's were highly thought of.

Big Shrek- You got a steal ! I have a model "B" in pristine condition in the original box. My dad was a LEO and sold it to me for a 3rd party as a widow had it and wanted it gone. She had him sell it to a reliable buyer, me. I stepped in, id just turned 21.I am almost ashmed to say what I gave for it (50.00) but dad said she was happy with the deal. Every gun show ive been to for the last decade has had a couple and the minimum Ive seen on them is 425.00. There usually labeled best of show etc. I chuckel and know what mine is . I have shot it a few times cleaned oiled and put back carefully away. shoots great. You will not be disappointed with your investment as I would bet you could get well over what you gave for it, and they are great guns, good shooters . some didnt like the angle of the grip to the barrel but I thought it was just fine . I read some where that there are two diffrent versions of the "B" model a early model only had one lever on the left side above the grip panel and the later had two levers. mine has two. Any how I think youll be pleased with your find.

Actually, even more versions...I've found four varients so far...

First was the two-lever on left side versions...

Then Single lever on left side with lever on right side, 3 variations, two with rear-mount slide-stop buttons and one on top.

Then you get the B-US military versions and the HB's after the B run is ended.

I'm liking it so far, even the wife likes shooting it, which surprised me...she usually like BIGGER BOOM

Just found a Nifty Chart which told me that mine was definitely a 1940 model B.
Welcome to Adobe GoLive 5

Now if I could find some Pointer grips for it...hehehe
