Yea, I turned on Fox News at about 1am the other night & there it was plastered. They had to evacuate 100,000+ people. I didn't look to see the next day what happened, but, now I will.

This was not meant to explode, it is obvious to me it is to send some sort of message or its a Democrat who will claim to be a tebagger when caught, you know kind of a fall guy.

Could very well be,both parties care about nothing but victory for their party and damage to the other.
Collateral damage is of no consiquence.

... still really thinking this was a probe and meant to fail. In any war, sides probe each other for weaknesses, etc. A lot of us have witnessed this before as I have personally myself.

... think about it :

1. Car parked the wrong way where a car shouldn't have been. To me, that screams 'look at me!' To me, 'they' wanted this to be seen.

2. Non-explosive fertilizer. It's not difficult to determine what will work, enough said on that.

3. Probe will determine who is responding from where and how many. This information provides further possibilities for the terrorists in terms of casualty numbers.

4. Finding out where the masses of people are moved back to (cordon) makes for a great secondary target. This can be achieved through a correctly parked car or stationary object that could be tampered with to create a secondary device. Imagine the mass casualties vs. some damaged buildings from the original target vehicle ...

... sometimes, to catch a criminal, you have to think like one.

They come in white quite often actually. I wrote a brilliant post for this thread earlier today on my blackberry, but it wouldn't post and was lost.. LOL soooo in a nutshell..

Most people think Arab or middle-eastern when they think muslim. But, the largest single country muslim population is actually an Asian country. (Indonesia) Europe is full of muslims, especially in the former soviet bloc nations. The chechans for instance that are plagueing the Russians are muslims. caucasian muslims. Islam is the second largest religion on the planet with 1.6 Billion adherents. So, naturally, they are from all countries, all races, and all walks of life.

Recently, intelligence agencies have been noticing a large number of caucasion muslims arriving and being trained in pakistan and afghanistan in special camps built just for the caucasion terrorists.

Also, if anyone is old enough to remember the 80s besides me.. That was the hayday of terrorism. Europe was aflame with it on all fronts. In those days, various terror groups worked together, assisted each other, and provided supplies for each other regardless of their affiliation. For instance, the IRA would provide weapons to PFLP terrorists in Europe, German RAF terrorists would provide documents and logistical support to Palestinian groups, etc. If we are seeing a return to those "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" type of days, we will no longer have a profile to watch for and investigate.

Regardless, I am sticking with my original speculation and we will see how close I come. Besides the fact that the video on the news is so poor, saying the guy is a white guy is a stretch. He could be light arab, light hispanic, german, just about anything. My prediction was Muslim, no formal training, loose ties to an overseas radical imam. I'm sticking with it. I still say he's a Major Hasan type: Radical, but no formal connection to a terror organization, no formal training, striking out on his own trying to do his part for the jihad.

Well well well...

Either someone in Washington DC is at least as smart as I am (not likely) or they are reading my G&G posts.. (congrats G&G)

Officials are finally saying what I have been saying for the last couple of days. Doesn't mean I'm right... but sticking to my guns.

"Sources told Fox News that investigators are focusing on the similarities between the failed attack in New York City and both the 2007 attack on Glasgow's airport in Scotland and the attempted bombing of a London nightclub the same year. Propane gas and gasoline were used in all three incidents."

Police arrested a Pakistani man, albeit a US citizen, trying to board a flight to Dubai, for this bombing intent. Uh-oh. It looks like it's not going to be a Democrat trying to discredit the Tea Party after all. Oh well, there's still the conspiracy of Obama blowing up oil rigs to satisfy the tin foil hat crowd.

Gee, I wonder.
Just maybe, profiling works!
Man held in NYC car bomb attack to appear in court

By TOM HAYS and COLLEEN LONG, Associated Press Writers Tom Hays And Colleen Long, Associated Press Writers 7 mins ago

NEW YORK – A Pakistan-born U.S. citizen accused of driving a bomb-laden SUV into Times Square and parking it on a street lined with restaurants and Broadway theaters was to appear in court Tuesday to face charges that he tried to set off a massive fireball and kill Americans, federal authorities said.
The suspect, Faisal Shahzad, was taken into custody late Monday by FBI agents and New York Police Department detectives at Kennedy Airport while trying to board a flight to Dubai, according to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and other officials. He was identified by customs agents and stopped before boarding, Holder said early Tuesday in Washington.
U.S. authorities "will not rest until we have brought everyone responsible to justice," Holder said, suggesting additional suspects are being sought.
Shahzad, 30, is a naturalized U.S. citizen and had recently returned from a five-month trip to Pakistan, where he had a wife, according to law enforcement officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation into the failed car bombing.
The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan was handling the case and said Shahzad would appear in court Tuesday, but the charges were not made public. FBI agents searched the home at a known address for Shahzad in Bridgeport, Conn., early Tuesday, said agent Kimberly Mertz, who wouldn't answer questions about the search.

Authorities removed filled plastic bags from the house overnight in a mixed-race, working-class neighborhood of multi-family homes in Connecticut's largest city. A bomb squad came and went without entering as local police and FBI agents gathered in the cordoned-off street.
Related

Shahzad was being held in New York overnight and couldn't be contacted. A phone number at a listed address for Shahzad in Shelton, Conn., wasn't in service.
He used to live in a two-story grayish-brown Colonial with a sloping yard in a working-class neighborhood in Shelton. On Tuesday morning, the home looked as if it had been unoccupied for a while, with grass growing in the driveway and bags of garbage lying about.
Brenda Thurman, 37, a neighbor, said he lived there with his wife and two small children until last year. Shahzad had told Thurman's husband that he worked on Wall Street, she said.
"He was a little bit strange," she said. "He didn't like to come out during the day."
Law enforcement officials say Shahzad bought the SUV, a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder, from a Connecticut man about three weeks ago and paid cash. The officials spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the case.
The vehicle identification number had been removed from the Pathfinder's dashboard, but it was stamped on the engine, and investigators used it to find the owner of record, who told them he had sold the vehicle to a stranger. As the SUV buyer came into focus, investigators backed off other leads.
The SUV was parked on Saturday night on a busy midtown Manhattan street near a theater showing "The Lion King." The explosive device inside it had cheap-looking alarm clocks connected to a 16-ounce can filled with fireworks, which were apparently intended to detonate gas cans and set propane tanks afire in a chain reaction "to cause mayhem, to create casualties," police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.
A metal rifle cabinet placed in the SUV's cargo area was packed with fertilizer, but NYPD bomb experts believe it was not a type volatile enough to explode like the ammonium nitrate grade fertilizer used in previous terrorist bombings.
Police said the SUV bomb could have produced "a significant fireball" and sprayed shrapnel with enough force to kill pedestrians and knock out windows.
A vendor alerted a police officer to the parked SUV, which was smoking. Times Square, clogged with tourists on a warm evening, was shut down for 10 hours. A bomb squad dismantled the explosive device, and no one was hurt.
But Holder said Americans should remain vigilant.
"It's clear," he said, "that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans."
Authorities did not address Shahzad's plans in Dubai. The airport there is the Middle East's busiest and is a major transit point for passengers traveling between the West and much of Asia, particularly India.
President Barack Obama was told of the arrest shortly after midnight, according to press secretary Robert Gibbs.
In Pakistan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said authorities had not been formally asked for help in the probe.
"When the request comes, we will cooperate with the U.S. government," he told the AP.
The Pakistani Taliban appeared to claim responsibility in videos that surfaced after the weekend scare, monitoring groups said, but police had no evidence to support the claims.
More than a dozen people with American citizenship or residency, like Shahzad, have been accused in the past two years of supporting or carrying out terrorism attempts on U.S. soil, cases that illustrate the threat of violent extremism from within the U.S.
Among them are Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, a U.S.-born Army psychiatrist of Palestinian descent, charged with fatally shooting 13 people last year at Fort Hood, Texas; Najibullah Zazi, a Denver-area airport shuttle driver who pleaded guilty in February in a plot to bomb New York subways; and a Pennsylvania woman who authorities say became radicalized online as "Jihad Jane" and plotted to kill a Swedish artist whose work offended Muslims.

Regardless of this mans race and place of birth I still believe this to be the work (if you can call his efforts that) of an untrained, basically uneducated individual angry at something/one and wanted to vent that anger in a murderous attack on innocents, while he may have also had the belief he might strike an incidential blow for Islam. I seriously doubt that was his main focus.

I base that evaluation on a number of factors which I observed watching reports and viewing various videos on this case. I also base it upon my career in the Navy having dealt with military grade explosives and having been trained on the construction of improvised weaponry both explosive and non-explosive used by our enemies.

1) He didn't KNOW what he was doing: ie: He had no apparent understanding of what makes gasoline explosive rather than merely combustible, gasoline vapor is explosive, liquid gasoline is combustible (violently yes but still it only burns not explodes)

2) He didn't KNOW what he was doing: ie: He had NO apparent knowledge or understanding of the construction of modern propane cylinders with OPD saftey valves if he had he would have rigged them to rupture rather than rely on a fire to detonate them. If he had he'd have known there is a safety feature on those cylinders than when they reach a certain temperature they vent whatever fuel remains in the tank again burning it off rather than allowing the tank to rupture and explode in a fire.

3) He didn't KNOW what he was doing: ie: If he had he'd have been aware of which fertilizers had explosive properties, apparently he didn't.

4) He didn't KNOW what he was doing: ie: He had no apparent knowledge of the construction or purpose of a properly constructed explosive chain. In Military and non-military applications when attempting to detonate a large quantity of a high explosive you must use a detonation chain sufficient to ensure proper detonation without going into in depth detail most explosive projectiles, bombs and mines (both land and sea) use a three stage explosive chain. 1st is the fuze (think of this as the primer in your ammunition) but remember this is the most sensitive and brisant of the components so it must be stable and reliable it is also the smallest in quantity of the three, 2nd is the Booster charge this is far less sensitive that the fuze charge but is in greater quantity to produce a stronger shock/heat pulse to detonate the last stage 3rd is the Burster charge this is the bulk of the explosive power of whatever weapon is employed, it is also the most stable and impervious to most outside influences of the three.

I can think of a half dozen or more ways just sitting here that by using unassuming household items that this botched attempt could easily have become a tragedy, I can also assume this idiot never received any legitimate training because if he had they'd still be scraping victims up in Manhatten. Just MHO

Yes, profiling works, and only suicidal politically correct countries don't use it.

Hmm , well it will be interesting to see just how "white" this guy is. And as far as a plot to make the tea parties look bad, thats allready been happening, has anyone seen the difference in reporting on the different groups that gather together. Its obvious.

Here is another update
NYC bomb suspect seized aboard Dubai-bound plane - Yahoo! News

This POS lived about 15 minutes north of me in Bridgeport. Funny they decribe it as a "mixed race neighborhood" It is a run down $hithole town. It is also no where near the largest city in Conneticut. Not alot of fact checking in this article apparently.

Blomberg still tried to tag people who oppose the govt in Katie Couric's interview. It shows you how scared they are of the American core value system. They all try to blame someone who goes along with their agendas, man it's hard to see the fish in all this muddy water. Looks like it was really a Pakistani after all. ISI/CIA, or just some peeved over his relatives taken out by a drone strike?
Close the borders and kick em out! All of them.

The news is talking alot about this guys supposed "training" in Pakistan, but I think that will turn out to be nothing much in reality. The taliban know how to build bombs. They wouldn't have trained this guy to build one this way. Unless the taliban training camp is really a secret CIA sting operation training potential terrorists to do it wrong and get themselves killed or caught.. LoL. now THAT would be a CIA operation worth funding.

Anyway, this guy was no professional, thats obvious. I'll be curious to see how big they inflate his capabilities, ties, and background. Unfortunately for everyone though... he has not yet become a GOOD terrorist. (as in dead terrorist)

If anyone is keeping track, Bloomberg is on my list of highly over-rated, overpaid, unduly respected retards who have an inappropriate amount of influence in our country. He hasn't quite achieved the level of janet napolitano, but at least he made the list. Good job bloomy.
