Checked Remington's website and found that the Model 710, which I used to have in 30-06 and sold to fund a Garand, is currently produced in 300 Win Mag. I think it's an excellent beater-hunter gun, and I took that for granted when I sold it. MSRP on the website says the same cost for the magnums as 30-06, $426... At stores they're $350. I may get one some day. Certainly lots of projects ahead of it, but it's on the list...

Yup, looked at them Friday at my local gunstore...tempting. $350 like you said with a cheapie 6x scope on it...they got 3 of them set up like that.

Lousy triggers and chintzy stocks - but not a bad deal for a cheaper hunting rifle. Accuracy is decent.

I can't stress how durable this thing is. Metal finish and stock are extremely tough and resistant to scratching. It can take a beating and mud and clean up good as new. I wasn't that rough on it, but truly think I could have been. The scope on mine was 3-9x40mm, interesting that you say the 300 Win Mag's scope is 6x... I'd think the more powerful round would mandate no less powerful a scope.
