| Registered User | Model 25 .25-20 questions May father-in-law just gave me a model 25 in .25-20 Winchester caliber. I know nothing about it and wonder if anyone can give me some background. My 12 year old son is anxious to shoot it, but to me the bolt lockup mechanism looks a bit weak. Are these guns prone to wear out there? The front attachment that holds the tube magazine to the barrel is loose and is barely holding on. Whats the largest critter you can shoot with such a rifle? Where can you get parts? Man I got a ton 'o questions, maybe I should hold the line on 'em for now. Thanks |

| Registered User | Remngton Model 25 Yooper: I recently ran across the email you had written in May. Did you ever get any answers to your questions? If not, I may be able to tell you a bit about these interesting guns that were made from 1923 to 1936. The model 25 is a very strong action. I have one converted to 357 Magnum. Parts are not easy to come by but they are out there if you're patient. Email me directly if you want more information on your specific rifle. I'm hemphill@gvtel.com. Tom |

| Senior Member | the 25-20 It is a wonderful calibur, it can handle deer, though is not really a good choice for that. It shines as a varmint rifle with low recoil, and noise. I have owned two, both were excellent shooters. The one that I currently own, I am saving for my daugther. I hope she learns to love it as much as I did mine. If you are unsure at all about the saftey of the gun, you should take it to a reputable gun smith. He can check it over, and let you know what he thinks. It is a good Idea to do so with any second hand gun, though in truth, most people don't bother with it. |
