Given the prices for new Savages, Rugers, Remington 700s, and Win M70s, why would anyone want a Rem 710? I just bought a used Savage 110 in .223 that looks to be in about 98% new condition. First groups I shot with Sierra Match HP 53 gr bullets were mediocre at best (.8" to 2.3" for 100 yd 3-shot groups). The second load, using the Nosler 55 gr Balistic Tips shot great--.31 smallest and .74 largest for average for 4 groups of .52". Not bad for a cheap, used factory rifle that hasn't been bedded although I have tweaked the trigger down to 3.5 lbs or so. When I get back to the range and see if it shoots that best load consistently under .5", I won't even bed it, just use it on coyotes and feral hogs.

Basically, ya get what ya pay for. the 710 is a cheap knock off of the 700....remingtons reputation went way down when they decided to produce this gun.

Not sure if I already said it on this thread, but the real strength of the Rem 710 is an extremely tough finish. If you like the way it feels, you'll love the way it holds up under heavy weather conditions. No other bolt action rifle, including cheapo milsurps, would I be as comfortable literally dragging through the mud.
If it's not for you, it's not for you, that's fine. But that is definitely a selling point.

Man I thought this thread was dead. But you are right there. I believe for the money I would personally go for the new "Stevens" 200. Basicly a Savage 100 with out the Accu-trigger.
i am kinda glad Remington made the 710, not everyone can afford a nice hunting piece, and for those you have a choice of new rifle lines like the Mossberg 100ATR, Stevens 200, and the Remington 710. Something to fit everyones bill.

I don't mind lending this rifle to a friend (because I know it will probably stand up to most abuse) while there are others that I am more "protective" of.

Standing up to abuse puts the 710 ahead of the other listed competitors. Savage/Stevens probably has the best accuracy, and Mossberg the best price.

I completly agree. OK, it's not some top of the line gun, but mine is consistantly acurate to 1/2" at 150 yards. I camo'ed the stock and installed a bi-pod for those long distance shots. It was a great name at a great price. The bolt is tight but will loosen with use as mine has. I like the clip and carry extras loaded in my pouch in case they are needed rather than loading from the top... I like it, and as said, at a great price... As was said... if you don't own one and have not used it time and again then don't knock it

Since I work at a firing range, I have fired many 710's in my day, and I have to say, they are the cheapest POS on the market, do yourself a favor, and buy a Savage or Stevens instead, they are more accurate, and will last many seasons

It's like it won't die!!! Anyway sense we are talking about it and it lingers here is the new version of the 710: http://www.remington.com/pdfs/07catalog-rifles.pdf
Go to page #11
Seems it has a little makeup and is renamed the 770...with a black stock.
Just putting this out there as it seems there is an interest.

While I don't personally own one, most of the guys that I know or have met, say that their cheap "truck" guns usually outshoot their more expensive "premium" guns. One guy even sold his Rem. 700 ADL in .270 after he bought a Mossberg ATR-100 because it shot so much better. I've shot his a few times and it shoots near MOA with cheap S&B ammo but I still don't care for the plastic trigger-guard and sling-swivels. $244.00 @ Wal-Mart is hard to beat and I've been wanting to tackle a full stock in
Figured Mesquite...

Remington is really doing themselves a disservice if they keep bringing back the 710.

My savage has never had a problem and I plan on owning it for the rest of my life. Looking for a .223 savage to just have. Cant wait. | WHY YOUR YOUR FRIEND NOT HAVE CHECKED THIS OUT BEFORE GETTING IN THE STAND
Why did your friend not check this out before he got in a stand. He must have took the gun out of the box put ammo in it and got in the stand.
I own a 300 win mag 710 and love it. The gun is as good as the shooter. At 200 yards I can put 6 shot in the bottom of a tin can every time, with the gun laying on top of the truck. I love the gun. I get the gun out in any conditions and it has never failed me. If you want a good durabile gun at a reasonable price, the 710 is it. The bolt is a little tight, there again its a bolt action, make the first shot accurate, this little descrepancy will not affect you. It is a little tight so making a quick 2nd shot is a little difficult. Overall I would not trade my 710 for any other gun. TOUGH,ACCURATE,AND DEPENDABLE,not the prettiest gun but a good one. This gun is a hunting rifle thats what it was designed for.

| remington .270
I recently purchased a remington 710 in .270 i think it is a fairly decent rifle. it is not the best looking gun, but with the addition of a shell holder, sling and bipod it makes it look pretty good . it shoots well its very accurate mine came with a nice bushnell scope for $320 it is really hard to beat. this rifle is for someone who does not want to spend alot of money on a rifle. a friend of mine just bought a mossberg 100 atr it seems very cheaply manufactured but i have not had the opportunity to shoot it yet but i will post its results.

When the 710 first came out, it had some issues, so Remington did some recalls, and after few years, I kept up with this rifle, so I bought one in 270 and it was a Tack Driver. Very dependable and tough as nails. You can get a bad one in any brand, but I don't think that you will go wrong with a 710.

I have been laughing at all the posters post that bash the 710. I have had mine now since 2002. I chose to buy this "cheaper" model so I wouldnt scratch or ding my more expensive deer rifles out in the field. Unless "you actually own a 710" you cant say anything at all, good or bad about them. On opening day of gun season in 2002, I dropped a 10 pointer at over 100 yards, in the brush. The .270 ripped in the heart and the deer was dead before he hit the ground. Ever since then I have used my 710 every year for gun season, and I have never missed a shot. I have taken kill shots from 10 yards to over 150 yards with this gun. The cheap Bushnell scope does the job its susposed to do on this gun as well. So, those of you who want to say that your neighbor, friends friend, uncles uncle, work at a gun range and shoot them all day long crap, get over it. The gun goes bang when you pull the trigger and it hits where you aim. Is it made cheap? Yes it is, it is made this way for guys like me who dont want to take more expensive guns out in the field. I keep an open mind on other peoples opinions, but this thread is just ridiculous with the untruths on the 710. Right now with range time and field time, my 710 has over 120 rounds through it with NO PROBLEMS at all.

Was curious and bought a 710, and it shot very accurate. Do not think they are as bad as some people claim. Found that most people that bad mouthed them had never had one. No as good as my 700's, but not a bad rifle, if someone wants a cheap rifle.
