The Rem 7615 is a law enforcement carbine in 223 Rem that uses AR-15 mags. http://www.remingtonle.com/rifles/7615.htm I think it would be great for small game hunting and any tactical scenario where the 223 is the round to use but the training is with the Rem 870.
