Thumbs up rem. 770

Im a Marine sniper currently inactive. Ive bought my son a rem. 770 308..........i have to tell you when i put the first few rounds through i was disapointed........but as i got to around 50 rounds i noticed the bolt pull was becoming more and more smooth.......i have put around 100 rounds though and im very satisfied.....it will shoot a 1/2 in. spread at 250 yrds.....about as good as my m21350 that shoots a 308 as well......these stories i have heard about bolts breaking and the gritty action.....i have to say is false......but theese stories can be true......if so its the owner of the rifle not the rifle itself.

All in all a very good rifle for the price.

I killed an 8 pointer this morning with my 770 in 7mm-08. The action has gotten much smoother as I have put more rounds through it, just like the above poster said.

Thumbs up Its a good gun

I have a remington 770 in a .270 caliber. The gun was about about 1 in high and 2 inch to right. after sighting in it consistently shoots 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards and 1 inch groups at 200 yards. so i would say it is a good gun with a good price.most problems mention i would have to contribute to operator error. I have had no problems. i shoot 150 grain cor lok remington ammo.

I just purchased a new 770 for $300.00. It comes with a scope mounted and it is ready to shoot right out of the box. I got it in 308 caliber and it looks nice. I haven't shot it yet but I am looking forward to it. This gun comes with a detachable magazine that holds 4 bullets. Does anyone know if a larger magazine is available? I have ordered another mag. but it would be nice to have a larger capacity mag.

No high capacity magazines available, all hold 4 rounds.

the action does smooth up a little, but it still sucks. i paid $280 for a new marlin xs7 and it blows this rifle out of the water. it even has an adjustable trigger and its good too. will this thread ever die?

I bought a 770 in 7mm rem mag with stainless/realtree a little over a year ago because i didnt have a whole lt of cash to spend and it came with a scope. i tried sighting it in at 200 yards with the factory bushnell, and some job of boresighting they did at the factory. It shot about 2 feet low at 200 yards but right on for windage. I eventually invested in a bushnell banner 6-24 x 40 and was a good choice. on the other hand, the stock looks nice and all but had a hard time getting a comfortable grip on the trigger, so i decided to build myself a wooden thumbhole stock, and what a difference!. the kick is a little lighter with the heavier stock and the thumbhole grip helps with managing recoil as well as comfort. It's an accurate rifle by all means, but i wouldn't recommend buying one. the so called "more durable magazine latch" busted on me in the synthetic stock, sometimes hard to get the clip in, flimsy action, and you really feel the recoil through the hollow butt of the synthetic stock. Afreind of mine had one in 30-06 and when pulled the bolt back to try and get a quick second shot at a deer, the bolt release switch popped right out. My advice is to invest in a savage or any other rifle in your price range.

amen brother, how many shots do these people need at a animal?

Wow I can't believe this thread is still going! Saw it about 2 years ago after I purchased my 770 and decided to keep my mouth shut until I could provide some practical information. Bottom line is this is a budget rifle and shouldn't be held or compared to standards outside of this category.

I don't care about the bore site issue...so what, they didn't do it right at the factory and you had to site your rifle...not an issue.

Action is a little stiff out of the box...so what...lubricate it and work it in..not a problem, mine is now smooth as can be.

Mine is chambered in 270 Win. and easily shoots 1 1/2" at 100 yards consistently with factory ammo.

Oh yes, I almost forgot...it's put two deer in the freezer....so what's the problem again?

I agree with last post. I bought my 770 about a year ago in 243. I bought it because my wife had this revelation that she was going to start hunting with me. So, to save my better guns, I bought it. She did hunt actually hunt with it once and I did a couple of times and killed nice 7 pt. I did, however, changed the scope that came with it to a prostaff and now I really like it and plan on using it more. Very light to carry.

Remington 770

I sent mine off to Remington and they installed a new bolt assembly and now works fine. For the money it does just what it is supposed to do. No regrets.

rem 770?

I have a Rem 770 chambered in 300 Win Mag. It is a great rifle. Those who damn it are mistaken. Remington has been around a long time, they know whats up. I consisitently have placed a group (playing loosely as long range shooter at 650 yards with 180 grain soft tips and came up with 3" GROUPS. THATS NOT BAD . That's a Magnum cartridge with a lot of horsepower. It took me as it does many people to gain the mindset that, (that) rifle has mass recoil. I am a NRA certified instructor, and even I have to remind myself to take a few full breaths, exhale half and let it out slow and use a slow steady sqeeze(target shooting), they don't run off, take your time, and this concept takes time and practice, but actually sqeeze slow until the rifle suprises you it went off, reaquire target picture and youll be suprised how close to zero ring you are. I don't care what .30 cal round you shoot all ballistics charts show a bullet drop out of the muzzle, then @200yds .30's trajectory climbs and evens out to 0" drop. so at 200 yds, hold cross hairs dead on x, and you'll be delighted at your shot placement. Also Savage makes excellent out of the box rifles, I add this thought, because I hear and see alot of people down the savage brand, don't get caught up in all that. theyre all good products. The 300 WIN mag is just brute horsepower, youll get used to it. Yes the 770 is great. By the way, I made the mistake of mounting a harris bipod on the 770 at the sling attachment nub.....don't. it roke the sling nub off and cracked the stock. Remington was great, they sent a new stock, free of charge, told me not to mount it there on that High powered a rifle. Get a UMG clamp on the barrel bi-pod from Amazon for $12.00.and you will be happy for a long time. Thats a lot to read, but it's my experience with the 770. Hope it helps.

770 sucks

Well I just bought a Remington 770 .270 It has to be the worst gun Remington has ever produced. I didnt do any reserch befor perchasing. just went on there reputation. The gun was not bore sighted properly. That is no big deal. The plastic magazine is so sloppy it is hard to install. You cant chamber a round, it hangs up. After you shoot you cant discharge the round. I have to pull with all might might. REALLY Disapointed with the 770. Now I have to ship it back to Remington? I Think it sucks that you cant bring a gun back for a refund. Especially if it doesnt work. I dont care if the gun is fixed or replaced, I dont want it. Will buy something different.

while you may be a certified nra instructor, your not smarter than a fifth grader. bullets dont climb (regardless of caliber), ever! bullets do one thing, and one thing only after leaving the muzzle of a rifle, they drop, and keep dropping until they hit something (hard target , or earth). in order for something to climb in trajectory, it has to generate lift, and bullets dont do this. you can fire a bullet upward, but it will never climb above the boreline (due to gravity, its physically impossible).

sorry, i tried to interject a little humor in there, but i find it irksome when someone quantifies his post with being a certified instructor then goes on to prove he doesnt have a grasp of basic ballistics.

I agree, you can't change physics OR gravity.
