The guy at the assembly plant that builds the 710's and 770's must have put your 597 together!.On the bright side though,it should make a great rock bat!

I called Remington yesterday (finally) about my malfunctioning 597. I was actually very impressed with them. According to the rep I talked to, I have two old magazines. Seems that even though I only bought it a couple of months ago, some of the old magazines are still in circulation. The magazine that came with the gun as well as the packaged spare I also purchased were both a previous generation. So he's sending out two new magazines and a new recoil spring (since I knew I would bugger one up sooner or later). He also gave me the number and location of a Gander Mountain with a gunsmith to have them look over the bolt since the slamfires had him concerned. We'll see if that fixes the problem. If you are having problems, check the magazine first. If it's a metal magazine, check the side with the "window" that you can see the loaded rounds through. If the number 10 in a circle is towards the base of the magazine, it's an old magazine. We'll see if that fixes the problem. I've been having a string of bad luck with newly purchased firearms for some reason. In the past I've never had a problem with a firearm. In the past few months, I've had problems with the 597, a Ruger Mark III Competition Target (also jamming), and my new Armalite AR-15 (front flat-top gas block installed canted to one side). |

Getting the new magazines will fix the problem. I used to have feeding issues constantly with old mags. With my new ones, I'm 3000+ rounds without a feeding issue. My Remington 597 is my favorite firearm. |

what everyone has with the 597 is feed problems. I took all my old and new 597 mag's apart and polished the inside of them. sanded the plastic down at the contact points. I also polished the guide rails inside the mag. I put them back together dry and they work great. I just bought a 30 round clear plastic mag for the 597 it fires all 30 rounds as fast as the trigger can be pulled. when i first got my 597 i to was disapointed but after a very small amount of work mainly polishing the parts of the rifle and mag's it works great and everyone loves to shoot it. ryan |
