Rem 799

Well went out and shot my new 799 in 7.62x39 was trying to sight it in at 50 yrds to start and I have good news and bad news first the bad. I put on a nice 3x9 scope with a 2 pc mount and leopould rings(quick detach) and I can't get it to go far enough to the right so I will pull of the rings and use some Millets that you can adjust left and right should fix this problem. Now the good news the bullets were all cutting one hole up and down on the target so when the scope is fixed it should be a good shooter. I may have the trigger done and the bolt could use some grease but it looks to be a nice little rifle. Funny thing my friend was shooting a 1917 enfield in 30-06 which I shot a couple times and the little Remington with its short light weight barrel and short action, well its so light it seems to kick more than the 06.

big boomer: You may have a stock issue. I own a Ruger m77 in 300win. mag. I put a 3.5-10 leupold on it and I had to adjust the windage all the way to the right, but it did zero. It kind of bugged me because it was against the stop, but I was able to use it for about 18 years. During that time I took many animals with this set up. I had removed the stock to clean after hunting season, when I noticed the barrel was only hitting the wood on the right side at the very front of the stock. My gunsmith told me not to float a Ruger barrel, they need the contact on the front 1" or so. So I removed the wood where the barrel was touching on the right side, and glass bedded that last 1". When I put the stock back on a checked the zero, I had to move the windage adj. back to roughly the center. Funny thing was, the rifle shot to the side the wood was on. I would have thought it would kick the round to the other side, but it never. Good luck, you will find the problem and that gun should be a good shooter.

I have two items which might be causing this problem. I'm not familiar with the mounts you have used, but there may be a way to adjust windage from the mounting point as in many types of Millet rings and , of course, most Redfield types of bases. Put a boresighter in the barrel and see if you can move the scope from side to side with adjustments to the ring base screw(s) / attatching points.
Secondly, if this was a scope used previously on another rifle, it may have not had it's reticle re-centered before trying to sight this rifle in or centering the rings/bases. If the rings are able to be centered, the scope may still not be able to be sighted in if it had been cranked one way or the other from previously being sighted in on another rifle.
Hope this can help!
