They have them in both. They used to make the mini-.30 in 7.62x51mm but no longer do.They make it in 7.62x39mm and in the 6.8mm. sam.

.30-06 for Deer. Ammo's usually cheaper than .308 where I buy. Of course, you can use a BAR for coyote...it'll just be MESSY!

If under 150 yards, use a .22 Magnum for coyote...step up to .223 if shooting farther, but the Mag will take them with ease under 150 yards.

If anyone is going to depend on a .22 mag. taking coyote with "ease" at any range, much less 150yds,I hope you can handle dissapointment with "ease". sam.

Ruger advertised that they were bringing out the Mini-14 in .308 but it was never produced.

I would think that firing a 7.62 nato round in a Mini 30 would be akin to firing the Lee Enfield "Jungle Carbine". Ie. a nasty kick and a massive muzzle flash.

That's why they never made it in .308. Ever. People who think they did are most likely recalling the brief ads Ruger put out claiming that it was being introduced in .308 and .243, but they couldn't get the bugs out and gave up on the idea.

Thanks, I wondered why I'd never heard of it.

What about the Mini 14 Target with the balancer on the end. Suppose to be heavier barrel with balancer adjustment for accuracy. Accuracy systems advertises their own, and a complete barrel cahange out with match trigger job for 300.00 suppose to be MOA at a hundred yards?

I believe you are right,as I can't find that chambering in the bluebook. Thanks for correcting me.That would mean it is likely a .310/.311 bore. sam.

The Mini 30 reportedly has a chamber in .308, but Russian 7.62x39 ammo is .311.
By the way, older, lacquer-coated Wolf ammo does not cause a stuck shell, based on reports from gunsmiths' evaluations.

The problem is supposedly caused by carbon build-up outside the stiff, steel Russian shells (even with the newer polymer-coating), when not cleaned often, especially when switching to brass shells, which then expand and can get stuck.
Brownell's will sell you a stronger firing pin spring for the 30, which can reduce the chance of mis-fires with the harder Russian primers.

What a really fun gun, with the same ammo used in my equally reliable, rugged SKS (or your Saiga/AK etc)!

Look at the new Mini in 6.8SPC. The reviews are good and the round hits hard. I'm in the process of upgrading from a .223/5.56 Mini ranch to the 6.8SPC.

Ruger never produced the 7.62x51 for sale. Supposedly it was not very accurate and the reciever was cracking. Therefore, it never went on sale. The 7.62x39 was originally put out in .308 but later changed it to .310. No, I don't know what year that happened. kwg
