I will admit, I have a soft spot for the GP-100. It is one of the few guns I have wanted forever... because I learned how to shoot on one so long ago. So for nostalgia reasons, I have always wanted one. But I was very picky... it has to be close to the first one.
Today, to my great pleasure, a GP-100 was dropped off at the local store, and it fit the description of the one I wanted. It's the 4" version with the rosewood panels in the grips. And it was within my price range. Used, never fired. If it had a bobbed hammer, it would have been exactly like the one I learned to shoot on.
So against the better judgement of my bank account, I put it on lay-a-way. I'll have to pay it off slow, so it probably won't come home for a few months, but I've waited ten years, so I can wait a few more months. I have never been happier with a gun purchase in my life.
Stainless. With really crisp rosewood panels. This is actually my second meeting with the gun (I actually sold it to the guy back in 2008, NIB) and I believe it was one of the last the shop got in with those rosewood panels.
I used to have a GP-100, sold it to my old man and have found as I have gotten older and more experienced as a shooter that I am appreciating revolvers more and more. I originally bought it on a whim because I decided I wanted a 357 Magnum and sold it on a whim just as quickly. Having shot it recently I must say I do miss that gun. I had a 4" version and it shot both 38s and 357s very nicely.
Sure is puurty!
That is also one of the sturdiest .357's ever made.
I removed my rosewood grips & replaced them with Hogues.
As I didn't want to damage them, using it as a dw & dc.

No, I still have the 686. But wonder of wonders... someone won the auction last night on a Taurus revolver I've been trying to sell for 3 years. LOL! Problem solved. LOL!
