I'm looking to buy a Mark III that they have at a local gun shop. It's a Ruger Mark III, new in box, and has the bull barrel. (see link for a picture)
Anyways, this would be my first semi-auto .22, something I've always wanted. I'll be using it to plink and shoot at the occasional critter. They want $269, which seems like it won't break the bank too bad.
Does any one have any thoughts on this gun, price, etc? Please let me know what you think. Thanks! :right:
It seems like a great natural progression fromthe mk2. I like the new magazine release location and the loaded chamber indicator. I do not like the internal lock or the magazine disconnect. Those two features alone made me rush and buy a mk2. The magazine disconnect was always my least favorite feature on the p22. I like being able to single load easily to teach newbies basic shooting.

My friend has one he just bought, and likes it. I'm more a traditionalist, and would go for a good Mk.II.
I do like the fact they now include a scope rail, if you want to use it.

The mark III's had a few problems when they first came out, but they have been fixed and are a darn good shooter. I'm waiting for a new one with a fluted barrel that Ruger is sending me to test...I can't wait.
I have a Mk III Target in stainless, which I love and probably shoot more than any other gun. Like Practical said, it has an internal lock - which I don't like it either, but I leave it unlocked and put the keys away so I forget it has option that until someone mentions it.

There was some talk about the loaded chamber indicator, may cause the pistol to fire if it is dropped on or something hits the indicator. Has this been fixed or was it even ever an issue?

It was an issue, and ruger has updated it to fix it (or so there media person tells me)....I will be looking hard at that when I get my review sample.
