i live in south alabama and my main stainless versus blue(and i liked the blue look better in the begining) was settled by the fact that blued doesn't hold up as well against the salt air, and the fact that blueing rubs off in general, even just in and out of your holster. i also agree that the super redhawk looks like crap, i hate the scope placement. thats why i went with the redhawk .44 and once i switched to the hogue grips, it fits great in my larger hands. the stock grips were so small i couldn't have imagined holding it with a magnum load. in the end i ended up with the most beautiful gun i have ever seen (in my opinion, lol)

Still rather have stainless. Spend more time wiping fingerprints off my FN. They don't even show on the stainless.

im thinkin of another long barreled revolver myself ... something that would match a lever action rifle. probably blued just so it looks authentic .357/38? for cowboy silhouette.

well i've been shooting my Redhawk a little more now that i load my own shots, and i'll tell you straight up..its wonderfull. there's no way i'd trade it for anything. the Hogue grips make all the difference in the world. my loads are stronger than winchester magnum 240 grain i bought and i shot almost the whole 100 (also 240 grain) in a session at the range and wasn't sore at all!

Had a NM Super Blackhawk .44 mag about 25 yrs. ago. Thanks to the ex I had to let it go. Said right then I would have another. Just before Christmas last year I got another one . NM Super Blackhawk .44 mag, 10 1/2" barrel, blued, wood grips. Yes there is more up keep to blued, a little cleaning, light coat of good gun oil, my opinion, good looking revolver. Looks good, feels good, sound of it's own. Wouldn't have it any other way.

If I ever get finished stocking up on Mosins and other military rifles my next purchase will be either a Super Blackhawk or a Red Hawk. Every time I look at a Super Redhawk I ask myself "Why is that tube stuck in that short barreled revolver for? Just don't look right. Strong I guess, but, a little silly looking.

neophyte: The 17 HMR I have is, what I guess you would call a double 7. Double action 7 shot.

Add my vote for the stainless Super Blackhawk.
I've got a 7 1/2" SBH Hunter model and a 7 1/2" non-Hunter SBH with full Magaport treatment. Both S/S. The big Blackhawks are very accurate. I recommend the Hunter because of the rib with scope mounts. Very handy to be able to use with or without optics. You can remove and replace the optic without changing zero. I think the stainless is easier to maintain. If you get stains or crud that just won't budge, you can use polishes like Flitz, Semichrome or similar without worry. I have also used brass brushes with out worry.
I have heard that the Redhawk trigger takes some work to make smooth and crisp and is not as easy to tune as the Super Redhawk. The Blackhawk trigger is normally very good and is easy to polish up if need be. Of course the Magnaported Blackhawk has a reall pro trigger job and is a true delight.
Just my 2 cents. Enjoy!

I have just bought a new Blackhawk Convertible 357/9 6 1/2" and it's on the way. Seemed to be a nice deal considering 2 guns in one and I have a ton of 9mm. Would appreciate your thoughts
