For shooting off a bench the bull barrels are okay but for hunting a good standard barrel, in my opinion, is best. For the 22 lr a bull barrel is not really needed but a quality barrel is.
They do look nice on some rifles don't they?

Nice purchase, Billy. They'll work for you and that's all that matters.

Yes they are, and a little lighter in weight than a full Bull barrel...

Just to clear up Billy that I was not putting your rifle down. I have owned a few 10/22's and other 22lr's and other rimfires and have found that some think that a bull barrel is the touch stone for accuracy. I have found instead that a accurate barrel can be any type and the ones in a more standard shape are better for carrying/hunting than one with a bull barrel.
Yours is very nice looking rifle and the bull barrel does set it off.
Good luck with it.

oh dont worry bout it i didnt take it like that at all! happy shootin!

this is a better photo. at first i didn't like the wooden stock but it was made for this extra fat bbl. and it seems to be floated the way they should be. but what do i know? its firmly attached to the receiver but doesn't touch the bbl. it is 1.005 dia.

update im going to bed this receiver . i was told by a man that really knows these guns(god i love having smart friends!) that the three major things for accuracy are barrel, bedding and bullets. he has demonstrated the play between my stock and action to me. ive got a real nice bbl. i know what bullets it likes, so this is next!

i am glass bedding this on sat. ang installing a pillar truncheon to remove any wood compession when installing /removing the stock.

also drilling a cleaning hole in rear of the receiver

If you really want to go whole hog check out WWW.RINFIRECENTRAL.COM for a way to add a receiver hold down screw to the rear of the receiver, helps to stabilize the receiver with the bedding.

It's rimfirecentral.com, not rin. But anyways, stay away from that site if you value your money! You'll find so many ways to upgrade that 10/22. I've got over 350 in mine, and I was given the rifle for free!

Us "old guys" have a problem with "waving around" when we're trying to make those chickens, pigs, turkeys & rams "lay down." I switched to a Butler Creek 20" x .920 bull barrel. Yup, I don't wave... as fast.. but I still wave. I switched to my lightweight 16" stock Ruger barrel, "floating" in the Butler Creek stock (designed for the .920 barrel). The stock 16" barrel is only held by the 2 hold down allen bolts. My gun shoots fine, I just "wave around: & do pretty good, if I can "time" the shot so I shoot, as I "wave by the target." ...works for me... what works for you?
