Ruger M77 MarkII

Hello Everyone. This is my first post.

I have a Ruger M77 Mark II international rifle in .308 cal. I want to mount my red dot scope on the rifle. The Ruger rings that came with the rifle are different heights. I know they (rings) are suppose to be different heights. I need to get a scope base adapter to switch from Ruger rings to Weaver style rings. My Question is- If I get the base adapter and switch to Weaver style rings do the rings need to be different heights like the Ruger rings? Will it make a difference if they are the same height?
