220 swift

Hello everyone. I just bought a M 77 Mark II Target Grey in 220 swift and I was wondering first if anyone had the same gun and wanted to share some data on loads that work well out of it.

If nobody has the same gun, then does anyone have some loads for the swift that worked especially well for them. I'm just trying to get a little research in before I hit the loading room. Thanks.

Am shooting a 1v. Am pushing a 52gr hornaday vmax around 3800fps with 37.8gr.s of imr 4064. Shooting a .75" 5 shot group at 100yrd. Not a super fast load but I works well. Check out handloads.com for some more data if you want.

Oka has the right idea,. No need to push those last few fps if you want accuracy. Many years ago I saw shot g-hogs and even a single deer w 220swift. Back then the bullets "vaporized" from c-forces when pushed to limits. A hit on a deer was catastrophic if one could penetrate the rib cage. If not it just blew off a smallcraters of flesh w/o penetrating an inch! g-hogs were instantly killed out to tremendous ranges if slower. Lotta pdr and heat and barrel erosion! Course this was decades ago and bullets & pdr are better. Heck, we were impressed by a Hornet.

Thanks fella's. I'm not looking to push the velocity envelope. I just want to get some ideas and save myself a bit of work in finding "the load". I'm after accuracy, not something that can chase down a fighter jet.

I have discovered that each rifle is an individual. It takes a lot of rounds to discover what is the "perfect" round for it (bullit wt and style, powder and amount, primer, case, and seating depth). What works well in one rifle may not work as well in another. The loads that I use for each rifle is the most accurate ones in each wt catagory.
