Confused about the 10/22

I'm seeing lots of auctions where people are selling bone stock NIB 10/22's and getting way over the Wal-Mart price of $189.98 for them...and that confuses the crud outta me.

What's the deal?? Why pay $80+ over list for it?? Why not just buy it from Wal-mart??

Lots of Walmarts quit selling guns, The Walnut stocks sell for more, They think the can sucker someone out of more money, there's lots of reasons.

lots of the 10/22's up for auction have different stocks (ex laminate, walnut...) or custom barrels, or scopes......or are just unique in some other way. Personally, if I have the money, I pay a bit extra for a different stock or barrel...etc

Some people get caught up in the "auction fever", and are so hell-bent to win they don't realize the price they're paying. Glad I'm not one of them.

gets the competition going and wants the contestants to forget about the
item in question. It is the same competition mentality online.

Sounds silly but millions of people overpay just to win.

alot of the newer 10/22's at walmart have a plastic trigger group,the older ones were made of alum.The alum. trigger group guns are worth more.

List price for the "Hardwood" stocked 10/22 is $261.00. You can pick it up for anywhere from $190 -$225 bucks. The 10/22 with Walnut stock goes and gets anywhere from $50-$100 bucks more sometimes mainly depending on who's doing the selling and where it's being sold and who's willing to pay what...

I'm not sure if the entire FCG is plastic. I'm pretty sure it's just the trigger guard. A plastic FCG would wear out pretty quick wouldn't it?I think all the new Ruger 10/22s have the plastic trigger guard. Mine which was obtained for me through a FFL, who went through a wholesaler had the plastic trigger guard. Trust me, in time it will be upgraded.

i can explain this all quite simply. people are stupid! its the only possible explanation why someone would overpay for something that is available anywhere guns are sold.

i got mine for that price about 3 years ago.. i guess i got just the basic model

The basic model is the one that has the hardwood stock, it is model #10/22RB. The one with the American walnut stock is the next step up I guess you could say and the item # for that one is #10/22DSP and the suggested retail price is $345.00.

You can get a 10/22 with a blued bull barrel and it starts at $470.00 to a stainless bull barrel which starts at $518.00..

If one shops around, one can easily find any of the still in productions for a much lower price then the MSRP. I suppose if one shops around and looks hard enough, one could even find a few out of production ones. Those will be a bit harder to get for as much less then the MSRP as with the others, due to the fact they are out of production, but even that can be done...

I do somewhat agree with LeftyO in that people tend to overpay far more then they have to. I'm not sure if it's out of stupidity as he's suggested or if its out of mere laziness to not take the time and shop around or what. But one sure does have to wonder why they do when they don't have to. Must be nice to not have to worry about it though. Me, I try not pay anymore than I have to when at all possible. lol Giving a tad more to keep a gun store open doesn't really bother me all that much. I mean, I'm not overpaying out of mere stupidity anyhow. I'm just paying a bit more to keep them in business and I'll do that anytime then give it to Walmart or anywhere else...

I got the 10/22RB model which as I said list for $261.00. I paid $210.00 out the door which included tax and the FFL's fee. That was the only money the FFL made. I personally had no problem with that as they have to make something otherwise they won't stay in business for very long...

All Walmarts will eventually all stop selling firearms, if they all haven't already. From what I understand, you can still order them online, and then have them delivered to which ever Walmart you choose. But they will take your picture and whatever else they said they'll do for such transactions. Personally, I don;t understand why they're going to take pictures or take such steps. I mean, how many of you have ever heard of someone using a hunting rifle, which is all Walmart sells from what I know and remember and I don't ever recall a firearm that was purchased from Walmart being used in any crime/s?

Like eBay, I try all other options before I shop at Walmart, or eBay or any other similar place that tends to hurt the gun dealers/FFLs. I'll gladly pay a small amount more then give any money just to save a few bucks to the likes of eBay or Walmart or similar.

I mean, when I buy from a gun auction site or an FFL, I know for a fact no money I spent ever ends up in the hands of any anti-gun organization!!!PERIOD!!!

Since the new models have a plastic trigger housing, the older aluminum housing rifle bring more money. The older walnut stocks bring more money. Some of the more rare stocks bring big bucks. That's just the oem stuff. If you have all high end aftermarket parts you can tie up close to two grand on a 10/22.

I have seen the exact same thing with regard to Marlin and Henry rifles - higher online price than at Wally's - but remember, Wally's buys in bulk! Also, no shipping and transfer fees - buy it and walk out with it.

Still, I will buy from a local dealer before I'd go to Wally's, unless the local is priced in the 'silly-stupid' range. I have a few FFLs that will do transfers from online sellers for $15 to $25, depending on who I go to.

A pawn shop with a good selection of rifles (40 min. north of this area) has an excellent-looking 10/22 listed for about $270, in western TN.
Can't imagine the book value being near that price, and pawn shops don't have gunsmiths to check rifles etc.

Somebody naive or desperate, who buys it (if at that same price...) might not know that a near-perfect SKS can easily sell for the same price or less.

Just bought the 1022T 357.00 delivered to my ffl and 20.00 for the paper work and NICS.
Shooters exchange had one for 495.00 S/S with a sling and 2 25 rnd. mags and a huge scope dont remember what but could not get a response.

i paid $300 for one with a shilen bull bbl. and custom trigger .bolt etc.
if you look long enough you will most likely find a deal.
