I'm a big fan of Ruger revolvers and rifles. Until now, less so of Ruger pistols (except the 22 of course). They work well, but are bigger and 'clunkier' than similar calibre guns from other builders. That has changed.
A friend of mine has an SR9. To start with the bad news, it's part of the recall for the drop-fire mod.
For the good news; before it left I had the chance to shoot it and I am very favorably impressed. The grip shape fits me perfectly. So far it's the only plastic frame gun that feels right to me. The Glock's, S&W's and Springfield's I tried all work well enough, but just don't feel right. I find, with them, that I am constantly shifting my grip when I pull up for the first shot to line up the sight, and then frequently during shooting I have to re-set my grip to get alignment back. The Ruger fits me perfectly, the sight line is exactly where it should be when I pull up, and it's right there again for the second shot.
Mechanically it's very well built, fit and finish are excellent. He had two failure to feed stoppages in the first fifty rounds, none thereafter. It feeds hollow points with no problems. Seventeen rounds in a magazine smaller than most fifteen rounders.
Finally, it has an applied safety, which is required by some agencies.
In sum, I like it a lot. I'd happily carry one if required to use a 9mm (from the size of the mag-well I suspect there may be an SR40, or even an SR45 in the future).
Is there a second gen available in the SR9? One that might already have the recall modification issues resolved? I'd like to give one a try but it would be silly to buy one that you know is defective and will have to go back to the factory.
The recalls only affect the 330 start serial numbers...Ruger will send you a box to ship too them free of charge...complete the mods...ship it back to you and for all the trouble they will give you an xtra mag when it is returned.

I love my ruger single actions but I shot my son's sr9 and was not all that impressed. It was accurate and reliable but it felt like a cheap piece of crap and the trigger sucked. Then again I have never been a big fan of plastic guns. I'm always amazed at people who buy 9mm's and 40 sw's because they don't like the recoil of a 45acp. Seems to me that those light plastic 9's and 40's recoil worse than a 1911 45acp.
I'm sure after Ruger fixed the problem with the SR 9 that there excellent pistols.
My problem is I can't find a LCP to buy !
Actually the LCPs are now easy to find but rather costly. I have seen them as high as $460. I paid $249 the first week they shipped. The $210 difference is strickly supply and demand. I believe that if you wait a bit longer the prices will come down as the supply catches up with the demand.

There definately out there. I just left the gun show and probalby saw 8-10 around. One guy would not even discuss a price less than $450 and two tables over they had one at $399. I just paid $399 for mine a couple of weeks ago. I think too much to pay but ???
