| ruger deerfield carbine
does anyone here own one of the newer deerfield carbines? I have one of the old style .44 carbines and was wondering about the newer one. Do they still make them? I havent seen them advertised for awhile.

Wow! I've been looking for one too... ...and haven't had any luck in finding one yet. If anyone knows where I can purchase a Ruger .44 carbine, in good condition... ...I'd be right on it.

I've been really wanting one of these puppies too! I'm pretty sure the stopped making them. But have seen plenty on line (used) even saw one with a full length (mannlicher style) stock. I've always had a thing for those stocks. I don't know alot about the gun , like which ( old or new style) would be better , or is there that much of a difference?? I think it would be an ideal deer rifle out to 100 yds and even further. |

| Exalted Grand PooBah | I had one of those. Traded it to a co-worker for a stainless S&W 66 4". Traded even. Thought I ripped him off. That was almost 15 years ago. And I'm still kicking my own ass for it.

I stumbled onto one this Labor Day at a Cabela's gun show (all guns were their own).. Snagged it for $400, with scope mounts and sling.. Tossed this scope on it, but ended up taking it off and tossing on a nice Leupold 2-7x32 Rifleman.. ![]() Great little rifle!!

Here's my Deerfield Carbine with a Leupold 2.5x scope. I handload it with 240 gr bullets and W296 powder at a muzzle velocity of 1700 fps. Nice to carry, quick to aim, and has plenty of power for short range deer hunting. ![]() Last edited by slamfire; 12-19-2008 at 12:46 AM. |

Drool, drool, drool (I was so excited about the pics that I couldn't spell drool correctly the first time)... ...thanks for sharing pics and info on these beauties. Hope to find one for sale some day... ...when my wallet agrees with the purchase price.

.44 Remington Magnum. I believe Ruger has discontinued production.

That's the only caliber they were ever offered in?

| The rifle is pretty much a Mini 14, but firing a .44 mag from a 4 shot rotary magazine.. Tear down is just like a M1 Carbine.. They just covered up the Op Rod with the plastic cover. Mine likes regular .44 ammo (HP or SP) better than the Hornaday stuff.. Lord knows I tried with the pointed stuff..

I'd have probably gone in debt to get one if I had seen aftermarket high capacity mags for it. the only thing I dont like about my old style Ruger is the fixed mag. its a real p.i.t.a. to load & unload quickly. where I mainly hunt, we have to keep all guns unloaded and cased while in any off road vehicle. problem is that I might be in or of of the buggy a dozen times a day during a ride hunt.

I have been looking for one of those little carbines for a long time now. Everytime I find a good one I didn't have the money. I will continue my quest!
