Ruger M77 30-06 bolt actiom misfires

I have recently purchased a box of remington ammo (165 grain) and I am periodically having misfires. It appears that the firing pin is not striking the primer as hard on misfires than on those that fire. Today was especially bad as I had a misfire on an impressive white-tail buck! Originally when I purchased the gun new under cold weather conditions this same thing occurred. I had a gunsmith clean out the factory grease, stretch out the firing spring and it worked great for several years. The weather conditions now are not that cold only slightly below freezing. The firing pin is fine. Could the problem be with the firing spring and should I replace it. The bolt mechanism is clean so that is not the problem. Any help with this problem would be appreciated, thanks!

yes sir, i would order another spring for the gun.

Brownells is a good source for such and you can probably order a heavier Wolff spring which may help or get a standard spring. They should have a gun smith available that can help you if necessary in the selection.

this one should work here: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/sto...DUAL%20SPRINGS

its a little xtra power over the factory one and should provide positive ignition.
turn-around on the order should be quick so you should be up and runnin' in no time!

Something is not right either with the bolt or the firing pin , or the length of protrusion of the pin, or the spring,...or too much lube inside the channel.
I have seen those Guns fire at -25 without a problem.
If you had a gunsmith STRETCH a spring, he wasnt a knowledgeable Gunsmith...You do NOT stretch Springs, as it can cause them to "Snake" and bind up...

Ruger M77 30-06 bolt actiom misfires

Thanks guys for all the advice and comments. I have ordered a heavier spring for the gun and hopes that will resolve the problem. The gunsmith that I deal with thinks the problem may be with the bolt not always being completely down.
