Used RSI, deal or no deal?

I posted this on the General Rifle page. Thought I'd post it here as well:

I just came across a used Ruger M77 RSI in .308 with Leupold scope at a local gun store selling for $950. I didn't have a bore light with me, so couldn't check the condition of the barrel; the crown looked fine. The dealer didn't want to part out the scope, so it was all or nothing. I was surprised at how well the LOP fit me, as many rifles are too long for me. It handled nicely.

Do you think that is a good price? I thought it was a little high and am waiting to see if it drops any, presuming someone else doesn't buy it.

seems a little high but that depends on the scope. if it had a nikkon or leopold then it would be a little better but I feel a bit high still, but not by much.

Thanks Okami515. I agree, it does seem a little high. It does have a Leupold scope on it, but not one of the higher end models. I'll keep an eye on it, but if someone else buys it, I'll probably kick myself for hedging on it.

i have a 77RSI in 250 sav and a 77MKIIRSI in 308,,,,,,,,,

i prefer the older 77 design over the MKII as the tang safety seems to sit in just a bit slimmer stock........subjective i guess...
But my 308 does have the LC6 trigger which is quite nice...........

either way, from what i have seen, there seems to be some growing collector interest in the older 77RSI.

this site might help it is called gallery of guns and has a dealer locater for your zip code area. Some of these dealers have a computer gallery showroom where you can get an estimate on a paticular rifle. I just checked mine and a 77MKIIRSI is runing around $755.00. these dealers will vary in price with different mark-up.

if that 77RSI is in pristine shape with a decent leupold---it would be awful tempting.....If she is a bit rough, i'd pass..........

Great website Deputy125. Thanks. I see that the MSRP for a new RSI is $911. I know no one usually winds up paying MSRP, but the Mannlicher-stocked M77 is hard to find in my neck of the Central CA woods. For some reason, probably my aging computer, I couldn't get the retailer guide to work. But I've got a good list of area gun stores, so I typically shop around before I buy.

One question: what's the LC6 trigger?

If I had the cash on hand, I'd buy it. Either that, or wait to bid on a Sako Mannlicher.
