Painted the sights on my LCP - take a look

Painted the sights on my LCP - take a look

I found that the front sight was so low that I was tipping the front of the gun upward so I could see it, and thus my bullets were all hitting center, but high.

So, I took some Testors model paint and used the blunt end of a wooden tooth pick to put a dab on the backward slope of the front sight and then two dabs on the rear sight.

I, not meaning too, put a few more dabs on the rear sight and the paint filled in the concave area in a fashion that pleased me.

I'm going back to the range when I post this thread to see how she does.

Here are some pics:

Tipped up so you can better see the paint on the front sight

Angling back down, approaching the sight picture.

So you can see how easy it should be to align the sights looking down range.

Thanks, I think the paint job is really gonna help.

I really like little LPC. I had a Kel-Tec 3AT that I passed on my sister, my wife said it "kicked" too hard for her. I was going to get another 3AT, then I saw the LPC. Ordered it, waited about 3 weeks and it arrived.

There's really not a lot of difference between the two. The LCP weighs just a tad more and one feature I do like about the LCP over the 3AT is that you can lock the LCP's slide back (makes it easier for me to clean the barrel).

Neither one is a breeze to field strip.

Neither one is what I'd call a range gun - not a real pleasure to shoot. But the LCP is, to me, a bit more accurate, maybe its because its a little bit heavier. That 3AT, while a good shooting gun, was even less fun to shot than the LCP. At 7 yds, both can hit a 5.5 inch target all day long. I just think the groups are a weee bit tighter with the LCP.

I think they are both in the same price range, but from my understanding there is a LONG waiting list to get the LCP. Maybe for the 3AT, too now, but I don't know for sure.

Hope my comparison helped. I buy it again, first, and maybe the 3AT second if was going to have to wait a long, long time to get the LCP.

Now is it me or is the front sight really low?

On a side note, I really like the LCP. Just pretty small for my hand is all. But I'd buy one if I had the extra cash and nothing else on my wish list...

Funny thread choice, I just painted mine last week for the same reason. I bought some paint to detail my engravings on my XDm and decided to paint the sights on my LCP. It makes a big difference. I did mine a little different so I'll post pictures later today.

LCP Sights Visibility

Another method to consider is the one I used. I attached a NiteSiters Nitesiters **Super Photo Luminescent Handgun Night Sights** fluorescent dot to my front sight only. Although meant for night use, it's light color shows up nicely during the day and the fluorescence shows up nicely at night.

I am sending my LCP off to Ruger today and suffering separation anxiety. My M&P 45c just doesn't feel the same as the LCP in my pocket.

Nitesiters, neat, didn't know about those. How many in a pack and how durable are they?

When I got mine they only had the package of 8 for around $10. Now they offer another pack that has 4 dots and 4 strips so you can construct a notch. This package is ~ $15. They are a sponsor of the LCP forum and offer members a discount. Pictures of LCP/P3AT's available on NiteSiters website.
