Question Smith vs. Ruger

I am just wondering everyones opinion. I have a Smith and Wesson 422 .22lr semi pistol and was wondering how it compares to the Ruger MkII. I am thinking of trading the S&W for a Ruger. Both have 2 mags. I paid $190 for the Smith about a year ago used and the Ruger I am looking at is used for the same price. The finish on the Ruger isn't as good as on my Smith but for some reason I have wanted to get a Ruger for a while....just wondering what everyone thinks.

I've never shot that particular Smith & Wesson but have shot the Mark II and it is a gun that will out live you and I both. Tough but fun weapon. Take down to clean is a pain in the ass but otherwise great gun.

I agree the takedown on the rugers suck. But i love my mark III, red dot sight diffrent grips kind of a race gun without going all out. Oh and the volquartsen trigger set at 2 pounds, all kinds of fun.

I love smith wheel guns and the model 41 is awsome but in this comparison Id have to go with the ruger.

What joke? Relieve my ignorance, please.

I would personally go with a Smith wheelgun over a Ruger, especially if the price was the same for the same condition and so on. Functionally, they are both very good, among the best out there. The finish on a blue S&W, except those made during the Bangor Punta (or whomever that offshore owner was a while back) era, is much nicer, in my opinion. It's almost as good as a Colt Royal Blue.

In an autoloader, I have basically no experience with the Smith. I know the Ruger Mark series of .22s is great. I know Smith & Wesson developed the .40 S & W cartridge, so their guns can't be all that bad, but their reputation is built on wheelguns, whereas Ruger started out building the Mk I and grew from there. Ruger construction methods are a model of designing for efficient production. The guns are often stamped or investment cast while others are machined. That explains why some of the finish details are not outstanding, but functionally, they alway seem to go BANG when you want them to.

Unless you have a great crying need to keep the Smith, I would probably trade even if I were you. It's always fun to have a new toy, even if it's used.

If you have your tongue in your cheek, you're not going to say much at all, LOL !!
I would love to have the Smith, but I do like my MK I, II, and 22/45 MK III !!

I do like my MKII but the thing has sheared extractors since I have owned it. That and it tends to only reliably cycle with the higher velocity ammo. I have replaced the spring, polished the feed ramp but to no avail. The extractor issue I think I will finally send it into Ruger for. I order the spring/extractor kits 5 at a time.

Palladin - maybe your chamber has a rough spot, making the cases stick.

Knightrider - that's absolutely hilarious. BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

VW Bug costs less to fix than a Beemer

The Smith will give you AK-47 reliability...drop it in the mud, shake it off, blow the muddy water outta the barrel, and fire away.

The Ruger will give you solid reliability as long as it's relatively clean.

I only S&W .22 auto I have is a 41. It is a good gun. Can’t speak for the rest. I also have a Ruger MK II and a couple of MK IIIs. These I also like.

It is your choice to trade or not. I just don’t believe in selling or trading anything. I buy what I want and keep it.

since we are doing these then here we go .

1.Model 327PD - 4" $1,200 I don't like ported carry i don't know if its ported
i just like this gun
2.Model 686PP $877
3.GP100 6 " $680 only 6 rounds but if i got this on i would keep the tuaras

witch one should i get i have a tuarus 608 4" set up for full moon clips but its ported and from what i understand is that 8 rounders aren't welcome in comps with 8 rounds in them and the winner of the revolver division a few years ago had a stock gp100 6 inch i don't know if he had moon clips or not. If i got the 327 i would sell the tuaras . that 327 is a lot lighter then my 608 would be nice carry that 608 is heavy as hell.

to get to the point smith or ruger
