Ruger single six flat latch.

I picked up a old model ruger single six with the flat loading gate the other day. Got a great price on it, it was free!!!! My step dad knew I had been lusting after it for several years and he finally decided to give it to me.

I know it's from the 50's but have not gotten it down to the specific year yet. The database on rugers website where you look up serial numbers won't work with my computer for some reason.

Smile "Wonderful StepDad"

Pumpkinheaver: You Sir; have a wonderful stepdad" those are wonderful pieces. Load 5; keep the hammer on an empty chamber.
Don't send it to Ruger; they will update the internals.

thanks for sharing

Here is the serial number history from Ruger for the Old Model Single Six:

Beginning Serial Number:Years of Production:119535019541073419553185719565534619578 82451958122480195915118919601714031961187367196220-00001196920-39803197020-77705197121-16995197221-538191973

I bought a "new model" at a pawn ship recently for 250.00. It was nearly new, in the Ruger hard case with serial # sticker. It is pristine and never been in a holster. It shoots great and is almost free to fire compared to my 9 amd 40. let us know the year.

I can't tell from all those numbers you posted what year it was made. The serial number is 431XX.

The "recall" is to have on old model sigle six or blackhawk updated with the transfer bar ignition system similar to what the new guns have.

Yes you are exactly right. Didn't know how new it was, was kind of a coincidence that this thread came up right as i pulled that paper out of my new box.

When I copied and pasted the chart off the Ruger site to the forum, it jumbled all the numbers together . I looked up your number you posted and starting in 1956, the serial # of the first gun was 31857. By 1957, the number was in the 50,000 range. So your gun was likely from 1956.

Does that fit with the history of the gun you know from your relative?

Incidentally the serial numbers were not always assigned in exact sequential order. Therefore the number does not correlate with the number of guns made in a specific year.

Does that fit with the history of the gun you know from your relative?

You can also contact Ruger directly at Telephone: 603-865-2424. If you give them the full serial number they can give you the exact date of manufacture.

Don't know the history of the piece. My step dad got it from his uncle about 7 or 8 years ago. The uncle got it from some widow in town who's husband had recently passed.

1956 is probably the correct year.
