Ruger 300 Win Mag Recoil

I just found a bargain on a Ruger 300 Win Mag at a pawn shop for $380 in great condition. I currently shoot an -06 what kind of recoil difference should I feel with a 150Gr bullet?

I doubt you will be able to tell much difference in recoil. To me, they feel about the same.

There is a slightly higher amount of recoil then the 30-06, however you gain a great deal more energy. If your looking for another rifle buy it, at the point you shoot to kill your game, you won't notice the recoil.

Recoil actually has two measurements

First, there is a measurable factor which is a matter of physics. In this sense the .300 Win Mag is not all that much greater than a .30-06.

Second, there is the human factor as to how recoil affects the individual shooter. Some of us are just more sensitive than others. In this sense, for many people the .300 Win Mag really is a bigger kicker than a .30-06.

I once had this chambering in a Browning Bolt Action. The most I ever
handled was nine rounds from a bench.

So, if the money deal is good you should buy it. However, do not be surprised if you "feel" more of a kick than you might expect.
It is a shootable round in the sense you can practice with it enough to get good with it.

A Ruger 77 is a heavier Gun than the Winchester Model 70 I shoot in 300 mag. Hence , felt recoil is less than it would be in a lighter gun.
To me , a 150 gr. 300 is about the same as a 180 gr. 30/06 in a lighter rifle.
And , as was stated , when actually shooting at an animal , you NEVER feel the recoil because of the Adrenaline pumping.
I shoot Both calibers and others as well....My .300 Win Mag is my primary big Game rifle here in Alaska.

Thanks for the Info. but I went out and fired the 300 Win Mag yesterday and the kick was just slightly more than the -06. I was all over the target but mostly because of the high winds. I was considering a muzzle break but after firing the gun, I don't think it will be necessary. Thanks again.

A good recoil pad is better than a brake in my opinion. Me no likie large muzzle blast.

Then again...I hunt with ear plugs seated if I plan to shoot.
