| New 10/22 with the Tapco package
I was at my favorite gun store today and saw the gun my neighbor had bought a couple months ago, the Ruger 10/22 with the Tapco package. It comes that way from Ruger. It was 299.00 and their last one. I have not seen them anywhere lest this way direct from Ruger. When he said it was his last one, I was sold. I had been in a gun buying mood all week and today is Friday. I have seen Tapco add on kits for 200.00 so i thought it was a great deal. Now I need to get some accessories. I have done a little research, and Butler Creek seems to have the best reviews. Which companies make the best high capacity magazines? What about the plastic hot lips vs. the steel lips? I will probably add a grip to drop down off the front of the stock - any suggestions on that one? It has tactical rails on most sides and surfaces so I can add all sorts of goodies. All suggestions welcome. |

| Here is my version of the 10-22 in the T6 stock, and I also did a little work and got Leapers ".22 Commando Rail System" fitted. Now there are enough rails to mount all your tactical accessories and anything else you can think of. LolLol I have 30 round Eagle magazines from Tapco, and they work pretty good but not the best. These are great suggestions for upgrades from SgtKnuckles and some very good pics from Woodhippy. I will research these items on the net and most likely start buying some accessories at the next gunshow in a couple weeks. The vertical grip is a must and the bipod looks very cool and functional. Woodhippy - was the ".22 Commando Rail System" hard to install? I assume this is the piece in the front with all the accessory rail spots. Can that be attached to existing structures on the stock or will I have to drill into it. I hate to drill into it since it is brand spanking new. I also like what appears to be a red dot scope. Which brand is it and does it offer any magnification? Keep the suggestions coming. I will post some pictures once I get something added on-right now it is just the base model in black. I will have to take some pictures of it along with the rest of the growing collection. |

Go with the steal lips. They seem to have the best reputation. The hot lips are known to jam.

I have Butler Creek steel and plastic lips. Neither have given me problems other than breaking in. They jammed every now and then to start with, but now seem to be just fine. I will say the plastic lips are starting to wear and won't last as long as steel(obviously), so grab some steel lips if possible.

| I used a square to mark the line after measuring the amount of the rail system that would come into contact with the stock, then started with a course file and removed material evenly from both sides. I ended up using sand paper for a smooth finish. I can still get the factory barrel cover on using all 6 screws.
