hello, just stumbled upon this website and it looks very interesting, looks like a place where one could find some answers, my question is: I just swapped a remington 12 gauge for an old P85 9mm, gun looks very good, only a few miniscule blemishes, besides the de-cocking recall of these pistols, are there any other issues that anyone may be aware of? Ill admit I know very little about firearms as far as technical details, thats why Im here , thanks for any responses

Welcome to G&G... Make sure your pistol has the "MKIIR" stamp on either the left or the right side of the safety showing it has had the safety Modification... Rich

I have had a P85 since 1990 and have put so many rounds down-range I lost count. One of the best firearms I have ever purchased and still going strong. Although, I am looking for a set of stock grips for mine. I replaced them with Pachmayr grips when I first got it. I guess I lost the originals. Never really bothered to look for them until my wife tried to fire it and said the grip is too big. |

They are a great shooter. You can go on to Ruger's site and check to see if it needs to be sent in for recall work.I have the P85, P89 and the SR9 and they all are great shooters. Now finding the ammo is teh hard part.

I picked up a P89 the same time my brother-in-law picked up a P85. He had a lot of issues with his...mostly jamming. He took it back within a week and exchanged for another because he figured it was defective, but the second one had the same problems...and no, it wasn't cheap ammo. The feed ramps were pretty rough and the shells would catch on them. He ended up selling the second one within a couple of months because it wasn't reliable. I ended up buying another P89 because I loved it so much...I think that batch of P85's must of been made on a Monday or something cause I haven't heard too many other complaints about them.

The early ones had problems with accuracy but the later ones are good. I heard Bill Ruger had bar-stow check out and fix his barrels and they were great after that.

Just swapped an old mauser rifle for a P85 last night. First semi-auto pistol in big bore I ever owned. Havent found any ammo for it yet but I love the ergonomics of it. Cant wait to shoot it!!
