I've owned a bull-barrel markII for years, when I clean it,all I do is run some patches down the barrel, clean the mag and boltface, and somtimes take off the grips and clean. In other words,I've never taken it apart! I've seen people do it and it's a pain(and not really neccesary from what I hear). From what I've read, field-stripping is not neccesary or recomended.

Some of these can be a real bear to reassemble, especially new. A used one has probably loosened up some. There's a trick getting the hammer strut to line up when reinserting the latch piece - you really need to see it done to grasp it. A buddy of mine got one, and spent an hour on two occasions reassembling his, til another fella showed him the trick. If done wrong, the hammer strut will jam behind a pin. See if a Ruger shooter at the range can show you how it's done. Otherwise, many guys just spray 'em out with WD40 or Remington Wonder Lube.

Rugers a bite to reassemble like BigDog says, mine came apart in seconds, took a frustrating hour to get it back together!!! just as i was ready to heave it down the driveway, things fell in place!!! for some good info on the Ruger, go to the members list find Lars, click on his web page, then scroll on down to almost the bottom, good stuff on the MK1 there. |

| MK II -reassembling
I have MK II Targer (bull barrel) and I had a bit of problem with re-assembling. But after few cycles and following instruction manual even field stripping is quite easy. The pistol is accurate and friendly. I tried many kind of ammo, including hypervelocity (Remington Viper, Yellow jacket, Win Laser, CCI Stinger) without any malfunction. I use Militec-1 and function is smoother then with WD 40 or Break Free CPL. Ben Gun |

Just call Ruger. They will send you a free manual for any gun they ever made. Hell, I lost one of the trigger guard pins for my 10/22 and they sent me one inside of two weeks, and that was just me being a dumbass. They are a real pleasure to deal with. Also, disassembling my MK2 is still a pain, and I've done it a few times. I still have to have the manual sitting there. Not sure disassembly is really necessary, but I'm anal about cleaning my guns. I paid a lot for them, I should treat them appropriately.

you sound like me to me if it has a shine to it new then it must shine all the time.beside's that if you take down you'er gun on a regular basis then you get alot more in tune as to how it works and you can detect a worn or brokin part while you'er at it. i just like to take them apart plain and simple. i be nosie.lol. i will call ruger and see if i can get one on the way to me thanks for the info PRACTICAL.

Practical is right. Ruger will gladly send manuals for anything they have made. I don't find that disassembly is any problem, but reassembly does take a bit of patience, but some cussing sometimes helps. If you feel after trying a few times that it is a pain, you might check Shotgun News for adds for after market parts that avoid the hassle. I don't feel that it is worth the money to me, but they are sill in business! Can't recall the name of the company.

Reassembly is difficult, even after you learn the trick of the strut, there is a conversion kit on the market that makes it only seconds to do either,I would recommend it to any owner that would be interested, also to but the gun in stainless if you don't already have one:nod:

I gave mine a good cleaning the other day. 2 trips to the range and a few hundred rounds had really gotten it cruddy. I still had to have the manual there, but it gets easier everytime. There are still some truly awful nooks and crannies to clean. I need a skinnier brush. The receiver and bolt have small spaces. I wish mine were stainless, but I only paid $125. It was a gift to a buddy who didn't want it and sold it to get a 10/22. I reaped the benefits. I still kick myself for not getting everything I have in stainless. Now I only need and Automag V, a Stainless Delta Elite, and a Desert Eagle. I figure 50 AE should be enough to disuade a bear while salmon fishing. This large handgun thing could get expensive.

Aww...its not that bad! Once you put the bolt back in place, push the pin (attached to the mainspring,it holds the bolt in place) thru the receiver as far as it will go. Flip the gun upside down and give it a shake. You can see the hammer strut fall down. With it still upside down, finish installing the mainspring assembly. Thats it! |

WD40 isn't great for oiling guns. Tell you what....follow this link and order a free trial sample of militec gun oil. It's good enough that I plan on using it from now on! http://www.militec-1.com/ |

i don't use wd40 as a oil i use it as cleaner it gets down in there and breaks up all that gunk then i wipe it down real good and then oil it .of course none of my guns have much gunk in them . i feep them so clean you could eat of them .lol so a quick squirt of wd40 washes what little dirt i have in there right out.i am funny about my guns i check them daily for any rust or corrosion that may develope .i only keep my clips half full so as to keeps the springs in good condition .the only one i keep fully loaded is my .44 revolver.remember a clean gun is a happy gun |
