Good news Mini 14 Owners

For those who are restricted from having more than a ten round mag, Ruger is now making mini 14 10 round mags. I purchased a few and like any other Ruger factory mag works perfectly.

They retail for $34.95. Quite expensive, however, they blow away the competition.

I have had good luck with the promag, I don't remember the exact price but they were under twenty bucks.

I bought a Mini-14 in '78, they made an optional 10 round magazine back then. Didn't know they ever discontinued it.

I have a few Ruger mags and a lot of Pro-Mag mags. I've had them for years and they all work great. I even have a few USA mags which are "not" very well thought of. In 12 years now, I have not had any problems with them either.

I have a 581 series mini 14. Will the pro mags work in it? I have heard some non Ruger mags work in the old guns but not the new.

Ruger re-tooled ( more CNC, tighter tolerances) in 2005 making some changes to the Mini -14/30 platform that improved accuracy. These changes also efected magazine fit when the dimensions for the mag well and bolt changed slightly. Older production Ruger factory 20 ( & 30rd when you can find them) have as much potential for problems with the 580 & 581 series rifles as the aftermarket mags.

The newest Production Steel ProMag 20 & 10 rd magazines will function well in both the newer and older Mini-14s.

While it is no G&G, perfectunion.com is a good unbiased info source for all things Mini-14/30, they even have a forum dedicated to Mini magazines.

I've now ordered and received three 10 round Ruger factory mags for my new model Mini-14. When I tried them for fit in the rifle, they seemed a little tight and I had to give them a light smack so they would latch properly on the magazine release. They seem easy to load, but I haven't actually shot them yet. In summary, they look and seem to fit fine.
