Very reliable with factory mags. I bought a ranch rifle and a 20rnd mag from ruger. After serveral hundred rounds, no hickups. Accuracy is okay but don't expect anything to fantastic.

my 2 mini s were made in the 70's & 80"s and they are very reliable. years ago I stocked up on Fed Ordanance 30 round mags and they never gave me any problem. I hunt with some Ruger factory 5 round mag. does your older mini have a flash suppersor? mine shoot more accuratly with the extra weight out there. mini 14 s are fine weapons and good for hunting.

The mini-14 (and 30) are rock solid on reliability. It'll still be shooting long after we're gone. My mini-30 is more accurate than my mini-14, but neither is outright terrible. In my opinion, these are outstanding carbines. If a guy wants to shoot .75" groups all day long, there is a slew of high-powered bolt action and single shot rifles out there just for that.

Question

I just got my new mini 14 tactical, am thinking about putting a red dot or a holo sight one it, do I need a Picatinny rail or are there high mounts that will allow me to use the ghost ring sites and a mount for a red dot on it?? I aint had a mini in 25 years, but recently bought 3 in the wake of the socialist takeover. appreciate input. I would like to use a scope but still have access to open sights. thanks. fc

You'll need a rail for a red dot/holo sight. Basically, they make a rail that attaches to the scope mounts on the action. Make sure you get the one with that doesn't go into the rear sight. I got a cheap one and had to take the rear sight off to get it to work.

BTW, there are no see through sights for the Mini, so get a quick detach version if you want to use both.
