Ruger 10/22 vs Ruger Charger

Anyone have any information on the differences in the following between a Ruger 10/22 and the new Ruger CHarger pistol?

- Effective distance
- Energy (punch)
- Accuracy
- Loudness

Shot a 10/22 today and loved it. Just wondering how much less I might love a charger.

I have a little snub-nose .22LR revolver that I shot seriously for the first time today and wasn't impressed. I had to be quite close to hit anything. The 10/22 hit whatever I pointed it at. I'm thinking why bother with such a short .22. If I have to be 15 feet or closer what purpose does a .22LR snubbie revolver have?

I'm thinking I'll at least get a 6" barrel .22 revolver but the Charger is looking very interesting...sort of a packable mini-rifle. I'm wondering how much of the "rifle" benefit one loses with that CHarger shorter barrel.

I believe the only purpose for that short of a barrel on a .22lr is for rat shot to deal with vermin. If you dont like the charger you can look at heritage arms .22 revolvers I have one and love it gets the job done. I have no experience with the charger I stumbled upon one in the cabelas magazine a week ago first time I saw or heard of it.

The charger would be louder, and not have quite as much punch, but you're not gonna know the difference, and neither are the squirrels or groundhogs you shoot with it. Accuracy won't be affected too much by the shorter barrel.

At last, the perfect home defense weapon should the house be attacked by a band of heavily armed rockchucks.

Rockchuck is the local term for groundhog. Our area is thick with them out in the rocky deserts.

Of course, that's why I've got a couple of Calico products..100 rounds per magazine

I scare the heck out of the local squirrel/rabbit populations
It's almost as much fun to bumpfire at a rabbit as it is to be serious at trying to kill 'em...but my wifey likes the rabbits Alive, so I usually just spray & scare

Yes - One is an orange and one is an apple.

Hmmm, well technically I think you'd have to say that one is an orange with a rifle barrel and one is an orange with a shorter barrel (though much longer than most handguns).

Other than that, so far as I can tell, the 10/22 platform is identical. I was just wondering if anyone had access to a ballistics comparison to see what impact the shorter barrel had on range and punch.

Doc - I think you're right. ha
Seriously, if you want ballistics from an "in between" barrel, post the barrel length here, and what ammo you are currently using, and someone with a ballistics program can run you an extrapolation pretty quick I would think.

Somewhere I read, or heard, don't quote me, that you could not put a pistol length barrel on a rifle receiver, but rifle barrel on a pistol receiver was okay. By this thinking, the Charger is more versatile than the 10/22 simply because of the #'s on the receiver. It's OK to have a long pistol with a rifle stock and 18" barrel, but it'll throw you in jail to have a sawed-off rifle. How I hate the Liberal mind!!!!!!!
