One of the best big bore revolvers on the market, built like a tank, and will easily handle a steady diet of hot loads.

I have a 5.5" stainless and a 7.5" stainless. As previously mentioned, they are built like Sherman tanks, and will handle any spec. loads you want to put in them.

I can shoot either of them all day without fatigue, due to the massive build that absorbs the recoil.

I use the 5.5" one as my sidearm/backup when hunting. I use the 7.5" one for range play time.

I also have two S&W .44 Magnums, but the Ruger Redhawks are easier to shoot for longer times, due to the reduced felt recoil. I'll never sell them.

I had one years ago that I lent to a friend to take shooting. I sent him off with some reloads that a friend gave me to shoot up. My friend got the reloads in a trade and he just wanted the brass. I was young and inexperienced back then, I would never shoot another person's reloads these days unless I knew and really trusted that person's experience. Anyhow, when I got the gun back and was cleaning it, I noticed that something about the barrel didn't look right. Well it turned out that not once, but twice, my friend's brother in law touched off a squib round and not knowing any better sent another round down the barrel without first checking to see if it was clear. You guessed it, both times the squib round had sent a bullet part way down the barrel and the next live round cleared it, bulging the barrel in the process. I guess this is a long story just to tell you that the Redhawk is one tough gun. If not, my friend's brother in law might not have a face these days.

I sent the gun to Ruger and had a new barrel installed and then kept and shot the gun for many more years. I wish I still had it.

Smile Ruger Redhawk

Dean R.: Sir I have one; and enjoy shooting it. With 300grn. it rocks; almost to the point of ''no fun'' hahaha
After shooting 300grn .44; .41 Blackhawk is like shooting a BB gun
5.5" with a cross draw holster; walk-abouts beware

I carry a 7-1/2 " Barreled Redhawk for backup Bear protection here in Alaska and it is one handgun I can trust my life to...Very accurate , and though heavy on the hip , the trade off of a secure feeling is worth it... I carry 3 extra speed loaders on my other side for a little balance ! LOL

They are great gun just like everyone else has said. Have one with a 7 1/2 inch barrel with some pachmayr decelerator grips and a burris scope. Also have an alasken model. I load them up with 44 specials when im in the city and 44 mags when im in the woods.

Mine is a 7 1/2" stainless, regular Redhawk, not Super. I have a Leupold 2x aluminum tube scope on it and Pachmayer Decelerator grips. I find it pleasant if somewhat loud to shoot. I load 210 gr Nosler HP bullets over a full load of 2400. The muzzle blast causes a semicircle of grass to wave a good 10 to 15 feet out in front of the gun. It's what I carry when in the deer woods.

Off the bench it will shoot 2" groups at 50 yards (my home range is short) with the above load. Sitting and leaning against a tree, I can put 5 shots in a group about the size of the palm of my hand at the same distance. I hunt in the woods, literally. A deer more than 75 yards off would be invisible. I got it because I help with a handicapped hunters activity at our club and I am mostly the guy walking the woods to get the deer moving. I figured tt's a whole lot easier to carry a holstered RH than a short barrelled Model 12 when working the thick brush. After using it some, I wouldn't go back to the shotgun.

I, like Sam, prefer SA's but I did own a SRH years ago. It was scoped, and I took 2 deer with it.

Redhawk Ammo

I got a 5 1/2 inch red hawk that lives on a steady diet of Garrett 330 gr Hammerheads. With that load Ive brought down 3 good sized deer two hogs and a 6 year old Angus bull that got into my pasture and his owner wouldnt come claim him til he was hamburger. All were one shot kills one the deer it broke both front shoulders the others were a bit tougher and only broke one shoulder.
