ruger ultralight 223 factory ammo

I have a chance to do some trading and end up with a like new Ruger ultralight w/ walnut stock and chambered in 223. I'm a Ruger fan but have only owned the pistols, 10/22 and #3 single shot rifle. I'm pretty sure i'll love this rifle and it's had a trigger job by the best gunsmith in our area. Any of you who have one of these - where would you start on finding factory ammo that the gun likes? I tend to shoot Hornady and Winchster a lot. Where would you start in a 40grn and where would you start in a 55grn. Thought I may save some money if I could come up with a trend from folks who own this weapon.

Since you are running a .223 bolt gun, stay away from 5.56 NATO ammo. I know it's cheap, but your rifle is NOT designed for it. Pressure is higher and they're really not healthy for your bolt gun. That said, I've gotten good results with Federal Match ammo in 52gr HPBT.

There isn't a whole lot of choice of ammo in .223 around here. Remington can be found, but most of the stuff I see is PMC.

Thanks for the input, I'll try the federal if I can get it.
