| Free Spin Pawl
I took my Super Blackhawk apart last night to see if I could file the pawl to make it a free spin pawl. I took a little off at a time and got it right on the third try. It works like a charm and I saved nearly $40 over buying one. Looks like my Dad's 32 Single Six and my buddy's 357 Blackhawk are next.

And the advantage is ??? Not owning a SA revolver, I have to wonder why you would want a free spin pawl.

| Swede's right. As from the factory the cylinder will only turn one direction when the loading gate is open. That's all fine and good til you miss a chamber while you're loading in a hurry then you gotta spin it all the way around to the empty hole. When you file it to allow the cylinder to free spin all you gotta do is back up to the missed chamber and stick a round in. Most people will never need this done but it is handy on a hunting gun and a must have on a cowboy action gun.

The newer Ruger SA's index different so you don't really need the free spin mod, just on the older ones.

| Senior Member | You extend the hammer plunger length. Use some 3/32 drill rod and start about .080 longer than the original plunger, fit until the revolver cocks correctly. If you do this to a new revolver it well never have the dreaded Ruger line.

Yup #31, when you extend the hammer plunger length, the cylinder latch is held down longer and will not leave a turn line.

Hmmm. Call me crazy, but I never found it to be a hugh burden to spin the cylinder around to get to a chamber I overshot. It isn't exactly heavy lifting, but, to each his own.
